Ketamine therapy for depression.

Ketamine therapy seems very promising for treatment resistant depression. The beneficial claims seem amazing and almost too good to be true. Treatment is very expensive and cost prohibitive for most.

Just wondering if anyone here has tried Ketamine therapy and how beneficial it was for you.

Please feel free to post any experience, questions, interest or concerns regarding Ketamine therapy.

What do you think about Ketamine as an effective treatment for treatment resistant depression?

Re: Ketamine therapy for depression.

So, digging around a little:
the cost seems to have been remarkably inflated. OK what's new, it it a pharmaceutical.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketamine

The wholesale price in the developing world is between US$0.84 and US$3.22 per vial
So much for an expensive treatment.
Yes, it sounds very interesting and significant-- but maybe the most significant aspect of it is that developing world cost.

Ketamine infusion for depression usually costs $400 to $800 per treatment, and most ketamine clinics perform a series of 6 treatments over 2 to 3 weeks. After the initial treatments, patients usually require maintenance IV ketamine therapy. Maintenance ketamine treatments usually cost between $400 to $800 per treatment. Maintenance ketamine is used to keep depression and/or pain symptoms under control. Usually, maintenance treatment is required once per month. Some providers may advise infusions twice a month.
The cost of treatment is depressing! I’d rather get a boat for that cost. I know that would help at least.

Treatment is available in quite a few bigger cities around the U.S. and where I live, if you can afford it and donít mind possibly traveling.

I would gladly participate in a free clinical trial or try therapy, if it had a money back guarantee. One free trial session would sure be nice though!

Can you find any paper discussing the actual treatment, number of treatments and adverse effects anywhere?
This is clearly shaping up to a more mainstream treatment, so there should be something somewhere on PubMed.

Go Figure...

Ketamine works better in fatter people with a family history of alcohol abuse who have not tried to commit suicide? And yes, there are apparently good reasons for the first one, at least.
