Adderall ER
Does this work for anyone? I saw my jerk of a doc who knew 10mg of adderall was not enough for me and he tried to give me 1x a day 10mg (the one that last for 3-4 hours) so I asked if I could at least have the all day kind..He gave me a dirty look and wrote ER on the sripe as if I ****** him off...Now I am new with the meds. But I tried taking 2 of the all day adderall making it 20mg...nothing..so then 3 making 30mg it helps my mood but I still walk around forgetting what I am doing and what someone just said to me. It just sux forking out a lot of co-pay and not getting help.

Re: Adderall ER
Well keep in mind that the medication isn't a cure, and it's not supposed to solve all your problems. We need to also work on our symptoms ourselves. The easy answer here is find another doctor.. I guess I'm lucky.. I simply tell my doc I believe I need to up a dose. I can even be honest and say I tried doubling- she will ask how it worked and details.. Im up to 30mg twice a day now.. It works well but I too find myself straying.. That's when I need to really sit down with myself and try to work with the mess as well.. Not just expect me to be all fixed.
How long have you been on this dose? |

Re: Adderall ER
Find a new doctor . Then once you have one, tell you old doctor to go f**k off. You deserve proper treatment for a devastating disorder and you dont deserve dirty looks.

Re: Adderall ER
I'm new to this whole what is this med, what is that med, blah blah, I've never heard of Adderall ER.
Like previous posters, I just said hey, buddy, this ain't workin, Let's figure it out. And we did. I hope you find a good doctor. I recently lost my doc due to his untimely leave of the practice he was at. He was a great doc. He didn't even notify his patients. ![]() Anyhow, sorry i wasn't help, but I'm curious to know what ER means?

Re: Adderall ER
I've been taking 20 mg Adderall XR for a couple years now. I am also prescribed 15 10mg regular Adderall per month to give me an extra boost on days that I am working late or whatever the case may be. It definitely helps me get through my days. Before the meds I barely got any work done. I would gab or day-dream, or do whatever else I could do besides work. With the meds I can actually sit at my computer for up to a couple hours at a time without feeling the need to get up.
In all honesty it really bothers me that I need these meds to be semi-normal. But I am just getting to the realization that I can't rely on a medication to be a end-all, cure-all and I need to start putting some effort in myself to be better. |

Re: Adderall ER
I am also very new to these meds. I was being treated with every different anxiety med before I finally found an APRN who agreed it may be ADHD not anxiety since looking at the ADHD criteria I met just about all of it! First I would say the right provider is key!!! I am in the healthcare field and may times APRNs are better to see than the MD!
So far last week we tried the short acting Ritalin (he likes to try the short acting before the long) and it really helped relax me and deal with my day to day issues but didn't seem to help much with my attention (not sure if that is bc it is so short acting). So the following week we tried Adderall XR 10mg in the morning..he is pretty good at letting me play around to see what doses work. The 10 mg did nothing at all. So then I tried 20mg...still really nothing. The next day I took 20mg in am and then 30 mg 4 hours later bc I really felt nothing and that worked awesome for my attention but didn't seem to have much effect on the mood/irritability/scatteredness. So I saw him today and he recommended trying Concerta (long acting Ritalin) for a month to give it a shot. I am going to start tomorrow on 36 mg and see how it goes. He said if this doesn't work (after we try increasing doses if needed) that he recommends Focalin (not sure on spelling) which is a combination of Ritalin and Adderall...so I am hoping one of these two helps best bc I now know that I can feel somewhat normal when I was beginning to loose hope!!!! Hope this helps...sorry so wording...it is just so crazy how complicated getting the right med and dose is and how different it is among people. Plus the cost...I have spent over $100 this week between copays and meds...but if I get to find a way to be normal it is soooo worth it to me! Last edited by BR549; 10-06-12 at 01:45 AM..
