Re: people with adhd are they in high risk in getting pregnant ?

i don't think it's even an adhd issue. if you're careless, you'll increase your probability of getting pregnant. Missing ONE pill can result in pregnancy. and anyone can do that, not just women that are adhd.

if you're concerned I'd look into a method of birth control that you don't have to think about.. IUD, implant hormones, whatever else new stuff they have out now.

i'm sorry I didn't mean to imply you weren't. I guess I was seeing more to the question than what was really there.

Re: people with adhd are they in high risk in getting pregnant ?

ADHD doesn't impair judgment like alcohol does (drunkenness increases the chances for unprotected sex). So, you'd be just as likely to get pregnant "by accident" as someone without ADHD.

Re: people with adhd are they in high risk in getting pregnant ?

People with ADHD are more likely to have unplanned pregnancies and contract STDs. I was a bit suprised that the new research showing people with ADHD are 4 times more likely to contract an STD ( http://www.youraddnews.com/2007/12/new-information.html ).

Re: people with adhd are they in high risk in getting pregnant ?

I've hear this claim before but I don't think it's universally true.

I guess forgetfullness about taking the pill could be an issue if that's their method of choice. I have this problem myself sometimes. :P

I guess impulsiveness could come into play as well. While ADD doesn't impare one's judgement as much as alcohol, some ADDers do make unhealthy decisions on impulse without fully considering the consequences beforehand. (Been there too, unfortunately. :P) But not all ADDers are that impulsive and not all ADDers are impulsive in the same areas. So it's not a universal thing.

But I don't think this stuff adds up to ADDers in general being any more likely to unintentionally get pregnant than non-ADDers.

Re: people with adhd are they in high risk in getting pregnant ?

Yes. Studies have shown this, IIRC.

Inattention and impulsivity are factors.

I'll try to find a reference.

good reference. Now I'm curious, that link states about teenage girls. I cannot find any info on adult women.
