Adderall IR Booster for Vyvanse - Wow!

So my Vyvanse was wearing off way too early and my doc gave me a 15mg IR Booster (Barr Generic) to be taken at 1:00. Um... Wow. This instant release preperation lasts just as long if not longer than the "extended release" Vyvanse and is far more consistent. I thought Vyvanse was the best stuff on Earth (sorry Snapple) as I'd only tried Adderall XR (what a joke that was). I easily get 4 hours coverage from my IR, which is what I got from Vyvanse, but IR kicks in within 45 minutes and Vyvanse takes 2 hours!. I've actually started taking the Adderall in the morning for this reason and using the Vyvanse as a booster. I'm thinking of just going with Adderall 2-3 times a day. Anyone else have this experience? What do you suggest?

Talk to the doctor and say that you seem to be getting a more effective benefit from the IR than the Vyvanse, and he may decide it's worthwhile to switch you over.

It's not uncommon to get a completely different effect from different formulations of amphetamine salts.

In this study preformed by Teva pharmacuticals - makers of MAS-ER (* Mixed Amphetamine Salts - Extended Release; think of Adderall XR *) 1 20mg MAS-ER capsule was compared to 2 Adderall IR tablets. One Adderall IR taken immediatley and the other Adderall IR taken on the 4th hour.

As we can see from the data, Amphetamine stays in blood plasma for about 24 hours. We can hypothesize that Amphetamine takes around 30 hours to be completely excreted from blood to urine and to have a blood plasma of 0ng amphetamine.

We can also see from this data, that Adderall IR tablets have a higher peak - but also have a sharper decline - when compared to MAS-ER (* Adderall XR *). The sharper decline and rapid peak can probably be the cause of why most people experience harsher comedowns from IR tablets. I can attest to this personally and say that XR's have a "mellow" comedown when compared to the IR's which usually last about 3-4 hours for me, when XR's last 5-6.

So... What does this have to do with vyvanse. Vyvanase is 100% dextro-amphetamine, reported to have less side effects in some people due to fact it doesn't have any levo-amphetamine. While Vyvanase is wearing off in your body, when you take your IR tablet around 5-6 hours on the vyvanse - you have around 15-20ng dextroamphetamine in your system.... (* not sure how long this medication lasts *) so when that IR hits your system you are recieving a 75% boost in dextro and a 25% boost in levo-amphetamine.... So in theory you are receiving a slightly higher dosage of dextroamphetamine in your plasma maybe 30ng - so... You are on a slightly higher dosage of vyvanse - with 5-10ng levo-amphetamine in your plasma... Make sense?

What dosage of Vyvanse and Adderall IR are you on. What time do you take your Vyvanse - and what time do you take your Adderall IR. Also, do you eat any meals while on the medication - if so, are they high in fat or acidic (* also contain vitamin c?*). What was your diet like on the Adderall XR?

Diet has alot to do with how long the medication will last in your system. With Adderall XR, shire preformed multiple blood plasma tests comparing fasting while on the medication - to eating a high fat meal on XR. The study concluded that XR when taken with high fat food has no effect on rate of absorption, but, has alot to do with the length of absorption. About 7.5 hours with food and 5 hours without food. Acidic foods and vitamin c were avoided.

That's some really good information, there, and maybe tambourine-man should try the IR without the Vyvanse for a day to see whether the effect is from the Adderall or from the combination?

I never combined the two, myself, but having taken both separately, I felt a significant difference in effect despite them being the same chemical on paper.

Fatality - I find the l-amp to be very helpful for me. I am prescribed 40mg of vyvanse and 15 of Adderall. Because l-amps have a longer halflife, would taking 7.5mg of Adderall with 40mg of Vyvanse at 7, then adding 7.5mg at 12:30 or so create a long lasting mixed salt combo?

I am not qualified to manage medications, thus my advice should not precede over what your doctor has prescribed and given you.

I see no problem personally trying this med schedule below - to see if you find your medication works better. I follow the same schedule except I take Adderall XR 10mgs and 2.5mgs before bed to sleep. I've also included a schedule for night - if you have problems sleeping.

medication without food suggestion:
Morning: take medication altogether at 7:00 am.

• Adderall 7.5mg 1x at 7:00am
• Vyvanse 40mg 1x at 7:00am
• Drink plenty of water: 16 ounces - 2 cups.

Afternoon: Take the IR at 10:30am

• Adderall 7.5mg 1x at 10:30am
• Drink plenty of water: 16 ounces - 2 cups.

medication with food suggestion:
Morning: take medication altogether at 6:15 am *upon wakeup is recommended*

• Adderall 7.5mg 1x at 6:15am
• Vyvanse 40mg 1x at 6:15am
• Drink 8oz of water - 1 cup immediately after taking medication @ 6:15am
• Eat breakfast at 7am *give IR medication 45 minutes to digest and reach blood.*
• Drink 8oz of water - 1 cup immediately after breakfast.

Afternoon: Take the IR at 11:30

• Adderall 7.5mg 1x at 11:30am
• Drink 16oz of water - 2 cups after taking medication.

Night-time recommendation - if you experience insomnia on the meds[list][*]8oz water with 1.5 tablespoons lemon juice at 5:30-6:30pm [*]8oz water with 1.5 tablespoons lemon juice at 6:30-7:30pm[*]300-600-1000mg vitamin c *this is to help remove leftover amphetamine[*]16oz water at 8:30pm. *this will hopefully make you urinate the leftover amphetamine stored in the bladder.*[*]Melatonin 2-3mg 30 minutes before bed. *not necessarily needed but does help to fall asleep.[*]Avoid sources of stimulation 1.5 hours before bed: tv, video games, loud music, caffeine, etc..

It's critical you stay hydrated on the Adderall / Vyvanse, which I'm sure you already know. With this medication schedule, you will be getting proper fluids - about 2 liter's worth of water. The water is not only beneficial to staying hydrated, but, also helps the medication work better. I recommend taking your medication WITH a high carb / fat breakfast - as the medication increases your metabolism and sends alot of processed glucose to the brain - where it is theorized to boost the effectiveness of the medication. I myself, always notice a great difference when I eat 2-3 bowls of whole grain cereal while on the medication - I feel great and I don't crash as hard.

The nighttime recommendation is if the medication doesn't completely metabolize before bedtime - it is helpful to have a healthy circadian rhythm (* sleep schedule *) so... The lemon juice and vitamin c is designed to remove amphetamine from blood (*plasma in the med field *) to be excreted in urine.

P.S: I think you are "feeling good" from the excess d-amphetamine from the Adderall. I could be wrong, therefore - if vyvanse gives you problems in the future: I would go cold turkey on adhd stims for 2 weeks and take Adderall IR 2x a day - see what that does for you.

Hope I was of any help. If you have the time, try out that schedule - if you aren't already following something like it. I think you'll find that you operate better on the medication with the food & fluids.

Actually, too much d-amp, or any amp for that matter, makes me feel sick. I like small doses spaced throughout the day so that I never feel as if I'm on more than 15 or 20mgs at a time.
