ADHD Diagnosis by Neurologist?
I have an appointment this friday with a Neurologist to discuss the possibility of my having ADD. I have absolutely no idea what to expect from this appointment.
Has anyone had a Neurologist as the starting point for an ADD diagnosis? I am also interested in knowing what types of testing might be done and if there is anything that I should watch for in the way of red flags. This Neurologist is supposed to be a specialist in Adult ADD...or at least that is what the office said when we made the appointment. THere are several Drs in the practice and I guess the one that I am scheduled to see is the "Adult ADD" Dr.

It's a good sign that you got the "adult ADD" doctor. My own diagnosis came from a psychiatrist. She based it primarily on my history. I had taken a self-diagnostic test on the web, but don't remember whether I had to do one for her or not. I think that when she discussed my history with me, the ADD was so obvious that she didn't need the paper-and-pencil test.

What "type" do you fall under?
I emailed a relative that is a psychiatrist. I outlined what I can remember of my childhood and he agreed that I fit the "inattentive mold" pretty well. I'm not sure if my situation is completely aparent though. I am bringin my hubby since I know that all of my questions will fly right out of my head when I walk into his office. I guess I just have to be patient and see what happens on friday!

I'm mostly "inattentive," and, IMO, so is the rest of my side of the family. I'll be interested to hear what you find out on Friday. It's very encouraging that you're seeing someone who has a lot of experience with adult ADD .... he should be able to ask the right questions!

The important thing is finding a professional who specializes in adult AD/HD. I would think that the Neurologist would do a typical assesment by signs and symptoms but also run some other tests to rule of conditons which mimic AD/HD.
I saw a Neurologist last summer when I decided to go back on medication. I didn't care for the specific doctor so I decided to go elswhere.
