How does metadate compare?

I have just been subscribed metadate ER and have yet to take it. I have never been on any ADHD meds so I had a question.

How does the extended release differ from normal release? Is the effect the same?

Re: How does metadate compare?

Here is a snippet I found in a book I was reading, and thought it was very helpful:

Source: Medicating Young Minds, The Essential Guide to Medications and Treatment Options - Glen R. Elliott (2007)
Drug Release Pattern
Concerta 28% IR, then ascending curve
Focalin XR 50% IR, 50% at 4 hours
Metadate CD steady release
Metadate ER 30% IR, 70% at 4 hours
Ritalin LA 50% IR, 50% at 4 hours

Basically they are all
Methylphenidate, but there are different release patterns to it, as above. Some meds are capsules, so that people who have trouble swallowing can open it and sprinkle on food.

Some medications work well on some people, and some don't. Why it is important to see what medication works for you.

I know this is an older post, but hopefully you are doing well!

Eek sorry my columns didn't work out so well...
