Newly Diagnosed and confused`

HI everyone Im new to the posts as well as newly diagnosed as having ADHD. First my doctor put me on 40 mgs of Strattera which made me so tired i could barely move and as a 25 year old mother of 2 that was not tolerable. Three days ago she put me on 18 mg of Concerta and Im still really tired and feel sick. I kinda feel a little bit of the med working every once in a while (i dont really know how to describe the feeling) My next appointment is in 2 weeks and she wont raise my dose sooner than that she said I cant expect to get the full effect this soon.

I thaught most doctors raised the dose after 3 days??? Is it normal for me to be tired on this medication???Is my doctor just being lazy??/

Any advise would be appreciated

Doctors often go slow on increasing dosage - I was at a low dose of ritalin for a month before my Dr would increase it - after that he was pretty good on giving me what I asked for dosage wise, I told him what worked and he took me at face value. I think Drs are just being carefull, malpractice insurance being pretty expensive these days. 18mg per day is a small amount - it doesn't surprise me that you don't feel much - that 18mg is dosed continuously throughout the day, so you really won't feel much effect. The tired and sick feeling could be remnants of the Strattera - people often feel flu like symptoms when stopping drugs like Strattera, especially if you stop taking it suddenly - how long were you taking it for? 40mg isn't a large dose of that either, so it shouldn't effect you too much, or for too long if that is the source of your ill feelings.
I'd discuss these symptoms with your doctor, especially if they persist.
Regards,
Greg
