How does your medication change your personality?

Good and bad changes?

one word answers...

or long ones...

I'm wondering bc I started a new med a few days ago and I think I've noticed changes.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

I am not yet taking meds because my blood pressure was an issue (it turned out normal, just high when actually AT the doctor's) but this is something that scares me at the prospect of taking them. So I'd be grateful for answers to this as well.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

People love me when I'm not on them. But, I get babied. I don't feel that love when I'm on meds. I do get a lot of practical work done when I'm on them. I noticed I am stricter with the kids I teach. Maybe I'm just more aware of them misbehaving. I worry that I'm inconsiderate or not kind.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

Dexidrine makes me less creative, less spontaneous, less affectionate, less emotional, diminishes my sense of humour a bit, can make me a bit over analytical, perhaps antisocial if i have things to worry about, gives me slight OCD tendencies, makes me more of a perfectionist, makes me more rational. I think that detachment from my emotions is good though, emotions can be very distracting!!. My husband loves it when i take a break from these meds on the weekends when i go back to being me, more spontaneous and fun.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

Adderall makes me flat, unemotional, my already non existent sex drive is even worse, and at the end of the day, I'm a total b****.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

I've had really good luck with medication. I've always said to myself that if I saw major personality changes or mood issues then it was the wrong med for me. I would just keep searching for one that worked.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

I agree with Sarah. I've had weird/bad changes from past meds, thats how I knew they were the wrong ones. The meds Im on now are absolutely wonderful and I feel like they have saved my life. My personality is back to what I feel is the normal me.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

I think not telling people of the long term effects of Adderall is wrong of the company. I'm still angry about that.

I'm glad you are happy Blueranne.

I came on here confused a long time ago about Adderall and the effects it was having on me.

Everyone told me I was abusing it. That word was all new to me. No one said, "maybe the medication isn't right for you."

That's a problem with these forums. I feel like I'm being ganged up on and judged when I know in my heart I was really wronged.

yea.. I think that'll do it. Have a nice life. Carry on with all the talk and controversy about medicine. I hope you all are looking out for the people that come on here and trying to understand them rather then getting defensive.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

Adderall is a "psychotropic" drug.

Re: How does your medication change your personality?

I find I take more interest in peoples lives when I'm on ritalin, and that people respond to that and talk to me more. Without it I'm halfway in the real world and halfway in my mind, ritalin is like someone pushing me more towards the real world.
