trouble getting meds question

I've been having trouble getting the Ritalin that I use. My pharmacist said that he is having trouble getting any amphetimenes. I wanted to switch to something longer lasting anyway. He said that he is having no trouble getting Vyvanse. Are Focalin or Intuniv amphetimenes? Or are there any other suggestions that last 10 or more hours?

Re: trouble getting meds question

Ritalin (methylphenidate) is not technically an amphetamine, but acts similarly, and Focalin (Dexmethylphenidate) is of the same class of drugs as Ritalin.

Intuniv is something else entirely, but I'm not really familiar with it. I do know that vyvanse is an extended release amphetamine (Lisdexamfetamine).

One other non-amphetamine medication which works for some people is Strattera, but it's not a clear substitute for Ritalin, as it acts in a very different way.
