The following is something to ponder:
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep ... you are richer than 75% of this world.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace ... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy. If you woke up this morning with more health than illness ... you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week. If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation... you are ahead of 500 million people in the world. If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death... you are more blessed than three billion people in the world. If you have ADD be thankful You could Have Downs Syndrome If your parents are still alive and still married ... you are very rare, even in the United States. If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful... you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not. If you can hold someone's hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder... you are blessed because you can offer healing touch. If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you, you are wealthy enough to have an internet connection and power on, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all. Have a good day, count your blessings, and pass this along to remind everyone else how blessed we all are.

Thanks Garry: WOW....very touching....and as I think about my parents coming next week for my graduation....
I am grateful that I pretty much have all of those things you mention above, but the best -- by far at least at this moment -- is that I have two parents still alive, still married.... which puts me in the "very rare" category. ![]()

Very interesting. Do you mean 75% of the world population is homeless?

Yes that does seem like a lot....refer to first sentence of your post Garry...does that mean that only 25% of the world have homes to live in?

I think the numbers may be off a bit, but all in all, the point is well taken

Reminds me of stories my friend who was in the peace corps would tell me about Rwanda. Any day living in America is a pretty good one if you look at it from that viewpoint.
Big, this especially refers to you about now, being down re; your job situation and all- get your headspace into that of a person who lives there, and then wander around your house and see the miracles we live with and take for granted; indoor plumbing (flush toilets!) telephony computer internet air conditioning heater refridgerator bed etc.

2 billion that can't read. Is it taking into account the number of those poeple who may be under the age of 5, and not yet know how to read?

even if it does include those kids sixes ages 1-4 thats still a small percentage compared to the rest of the population say ages 5 - 80 who supposedly should know how to read but cant.
