URGENT ! Please help me , Heart attack ?, Concerta

Hey all,

Today at work most of the day I was thinking about my heart because i took Concerta, once i started to think about my heart or even Concerta my heart would just start to race. I was in a meeting at work and I really strarted to think about Concerta and my Heart and my heart just went WAY WAY up, i could feel it and hear it, i then started to get chest pains on my left side, then neck pains and sharp pains all over... I tough i was going to die, I needed to drink or eat something to take my mind off it even tough it would not, it would just help...


But, yeah... I just can't do this, My healt and heart is fine and when I don't think about its fine, its just when I do think about it im about to have a heart attack.... But how can I avioid this or is anything anything to do or anything els to take or just anything to stop all this,

It started about 4 weeks ago I took way way way to much Coffee in one go and I was just messed up, and sience that day I have been having these problems, I keep thinking about my heart,etc.

And im Only on 18mg.... Its not the concerta its me, because as i said when I dont think about it im fine, but its so hard to not think about it....



Please guys, this is urgent.. And I canot tell my doctor, I just can't.. It took so much to get Concerta and I was very lucky to get it.

I was also on Ritalin for 2 and half years all good....

Probably a panic attack.

But you have to tell a doctor, if not your doctor than just go into an emergency room when you're having an attack.

Because you should get your heart checked, just in case.

But most likely, it's a panic attack.

yeah I would agree it is more in your head like you said. But do-not-worry...
You have identified a problem, so now you have to fix it. Most of us have dealt with the anxiety discussing our problems to doctors. I change my doctor, and my treatment change, mostly luck, but some doctors can be bias...


Let me tell you my experience...
I myself had a hard time getting meds. I have never experience a anxiety attack ever. However, taking 10 MG of Adderall gave me one. Just one, and it was because I was thinking about something stressful. The stress or fear is causing you to experience this problem. It is a paradoxical reaction. The thought I had in my head was that Adderall was like cocaine and my body had a lot of adrenaline, which I thought was dangerous and the dangers it could be doing. That alone seem to trigger a adrenaline reaction Way before I felt it physically. So I know at 1st hand experience that thought can affect the physical, which seems to be something you are doing. The reason why this did not continue is because I recognized it and avoid thinking about it because that event harmed me psychologically and physically.


1st , every time you take the pill have a sense that it is safe because even kids take these pills, and are perfectly fine. Even recently, they found that stimulants have no risk with the heart or irregular heart beat. Even if there was a heart problem, your doctor would have found it. And honestly, even kids take 18 mg and are perfectly fine. I myself was on 36 MG Concerta , and I thought I tolerated it very well.

Secondly, when you are having these episodes, realize that what your thinking is obscured. Faulty thinking equals faulty reaction. Deep breathing actually connects you to the unconscious, so if you breed relaxed.... Over time you can change your perception.

If I had to guess, you had a rough time with Dr. 's and read a lot about the medications which somehow is mixed up/associated with the use of the medication. Maybe you have doubts, I say forget about those doubts.... You should realize, who understands you better than you a doctor, or you..... Your self interests is what matters.

I am going on a limb here, but I think you are one of those people were prone to OCD tendencies.... Because a lot of people with ADHD have these 2 things in common.

I'm with Peche and Sciencer. From what you've said in your post, it sounds like a panic attack.

You really do need to talk to your doctor about it. While this is a support forum and members here offer advice and help, we can't do more than tell you what we think might be your issue. This could easily be more than a panic attack. Again, we can only offer our unprofessional opinion based on the information you provide. Only your medical professional can help you with determining what's going on.

Yes. But its not Concerta, This happens EVEN drinking a cup of coffee, and its not the stimulant, because I know its a stimulant and i start to freak out... But why why why do I freak out because I know its a stimulant...

I am sure that we had this discussion before. Avoid all caffiene products with this stimulant. If you drink coffee with the stimulant, it causes what you describe. I went off all caffiene products about a month ago because I was having the same issues. They went away. Last week, I broke down and had some ice tea. Guess what? My heart was racing and blood pressure was up.

It really sounds like you are having a hard time with this med. Time to find a new one.

Oh yeah, i did have a small coffee in the morning, but could that really be it?

Its not the concerta its me, i know its a stimlaunt so i start to freak out... its just me thinking about my heart because everyone says it makes your heart so much faster, heart attack ,etc but its all overrated, but i just keep thinking about it !

I was even on Ritalin 30MG in the morning and Ritalin 10mg fast release in the evening and NOT once i have had chest pains,anything like that, it was sience i started to get all parnoid about it,

wait guys, when you think about it its only a little bit of dopamine and nortmine right?,

but i was on Strattera 74MG for about 6 months, in the last 2 months when i was on it, i was taking it and not taking it, some days i did and some days i did not, then i was like omg im messed up, i think i was getting the over dose effect, because mabey there was still lots and lots of noradrenaline in my brain but was not pushing out...

I totally understand that it's not the Concerta and I'm sorry that you are having so many issues. I realize that it's not easy and you may want to know if others have experienced what you are experiencing. However, the fact that you are saying it's not related to Concerta is even MORE reason for you to see your doctor.

If you feel as though this is an "urgent" matter, you need immediate help and think you are having a heart attack (as the title of your thread indicates), you need to either go to the emergency room or contact your doctor. It sounds as though you are genuinely worried/upset/concerned that something is wrong. We can't tell you if it's truly a panic attack or if there is an underlying condition. We can only give support, advice or opinions/perpsectives.

If you drink anything with caffiene and take the concerta it increases your heart rate, blood pressure and anxiety level. It can lead to panic attack. As I mentioned before, I had the same problem when I drank coke or just more recently ice tea. I did get some minor chest pain at one point and pain down the arm along with high blood pressure (can check at home) and high heart rate. My chest felt very tired and sore.

I have talked to my dr about it a couple weeks ago and I was told to get off all caffiene products. I did and within a day, everything settled down. On another note, I did have alot of anxiety and stress about taking Concerta or any new med. For the first two days, I was nervous about it and afraid of the side effects. It did not help at all when I drank 2-3 cokes a day. It made it alot worse. I cut out cokes and switched to sprites and no more anxiety.

If you don't think it is the Concerta, I would go in and get your heart check. I know for me it was not the Concerta because I had an EKG done about a year ago because at that time my blood pressure was very high and they wanted to make sure it wasn't stressing or damaging my heart. Luckly, no damage, so they increased my blood pressure med. You may want to ask them about adding a beta blocker. It helps with keeping the heart rate and blood pressure down as well as anxiety. I take one which helped me with the heart racing/pounding.

Again, make an appt. You have one heart. Make sure there is no problems.
