Irrational Anger

I was diagnosed with ADD a few months ago after realizing how inefficient I was at work. The doctor put me on Wellbutrin which helped after being titrated to 450mg. But I had to go back down to 300mg (standard dose) after experiencing some anger.

On Friday he gave me 30mg Vyvanse to try (and said continue with 150mg Wellbutrin). I took it Friday and things were great and I felt great and got a lot of work done. I was up until 7am at which point I had to take 20mg of my Ambien to get to sleep.

I woke up Saturday (yesterday) at 11am and was in the most rage filled mood I've ever been in. It was to the point where a clock ticking on the wall was making me want to turn into the Hulk. So finally at 9pm I took some Ambien again to get out of that state and go to sleep. I didn't take any Vyanse yesterday.

This morning I woke up and felt ok with very slight lingering anger, but I took 30mg of Vyvanse and am waiting for it to kick in.

What can be causing this irrational anger, and is there anything I can do to help it? Before being put on any medications, I never had any issues with anger, in fact I had a reputation for being incredibly laid back and easy going.

Are there any supplements or anything at all that I can do to combat this? I would rather live with my inattentiveness and be a good person than be this productive with this much residual anger.

Thanks.

Re: Irrational Anger

Perhaps it's an interaction with Wellbutrin? Sounds like too much stimulation induces your anger. Wellbutrin has stimulating properties. Adding Vyvanse to that could possibly be too much stimulation. Have you talked to your doc about this?

Re: Irrational Anger

Wellbutrin gave me serious anger issues - totally irrational, just as you've described. My puppy would bark at something outside, just once, and I'd be flooded with rage. I one threw an ashtray so hard it went completely through the wall. Seriously, I could not control my emotions at all on that stuff, and ninety percent of the time it was anger. The other ten percent was either constant crying or paranoia.

That stuff was wretched for me. As soon as I got off out, the rage flashes went away.

Re: Irrational Anger

I was like that w zoloft and the wellbutrin, kind of scary because im not violent nor do I have aviolent preposition.I told the dr it made me wanna kill some 1,like you said the dog would bark 2 and Id be like shut up ,kick the wall in mad over nothing,I quickly got off that.It had to be the zoloft because I still now take wellbutrin and celexa and I dont feel like that,I can actually not get ****** off an deal w situations better now.

I didn't remember what I was like on Wellbutrin or how I responded because it was too long ago. Reading your post reminded me of how I was on one of my antidepressants, which I think is Wellbutrin because I remember a period of not having had a cigarette for a while, I guess due to it's properties as a smoking cessation aid, and I was quite unstable. I was irrationally anger, with extreme mood swings. I'm pretty sure that was the reason I was taken off it. Jeez, and I was thinking about asking my doctor about trying it again...

Re: Irrational Anger

After a quick search about Wellbutrin and anger, there seems like some people feel irrationally angry and agitated on it. I would definitely bring this up with your doctor, maybe it's a dose thing or maybe just your reaction to the medication.

Re: Irrational Anger

This may just be me, but I've found that I need to be REALLY consistant about when I take my Vyvanse. If I'm late taking a dose, or worse, miss one, anything and everything will send me off the deep end.
