ADD and internet addiction....

I thought that we could talk about this. Has anyone had issues with net addiction?

I used to, but I've gotten better, and have some tricks. For example, I do my reading where there are no computers in sight. Also, if I need to, I'll work on essays by hand and then type them up.

What makes the net and computer games so addicting at times is that it's easier to hyperfocus and lose track of time. At times, when I was quite depressed, I would be online and b4 I knew it, the greyness of dawn would be peering at my window and I'd think to myself "Do'h!". Thankfully, now I get to feeling too tired to be online past 11.

I must say I AM addicted to the web, and it's a big concern...huge actually...and I know I need to get very honest about it and work on it.... It gives me as big a high as chocolate and shopping....probably bigger.....

The Internet was probably made by and for people with ADD!!!!

It is especially hard at work with always on, very Fast internet connection. I often just have to close my web browser to get other work done, but sometimes that is easier said than done!

Sorry, "Force". I didn't know that. And I didn't want to give you a presumed nickname or shortened name that wasn't really real. But since it IS real, I will use it from here on in! (gee, that was a typical WORDY ADD response, huh?)

By the way, "Force", you say this is "what you do"? How do you mean? Do you help others a lot in your life?

Online games and the internet have been a big problem for me, primarily with my family life. It's much easier and more stimulating to go to the computer and tap into the vastness of the worlds resources than deal with mundane problems like my kids not going to bed. Chat rooms can be like a black hole for me. I've been tempted, once I learned about ADD, to quiz people in chat rooms to find out if anyone else had been diagnosed. I suspect the number would be higher than the average. It's frightening to think that the better technology gets, the faster transmission speeds become, the more life like and enticing the internet becomes, more and more of us will be sucked into it's artificial world. Particularly children.

Right Roger..true...scarey, isn't it? Sucked in says it well...and the mundaness of life...the internet is just such a relief...for me it's been the mundaneness of homework...I feel like the internet is my reward for getting stuff done...

Personally, my addiction to the net has kept me from doing various destructive things to myself and others...............i think I should be paid a weekly salary for keeping the net going.

Myself, I can't wait for virtual reality to reach the point of "the matrix". That will likely be the last anyone ever sees of me. Yeah, I know that's a bad thing.

Do I help them a lot? Mmmm, depends on your definition of lot- I don't go around smacking people who probably could really use a quick fairly painless reality check... hehe, just kidding (sort of).

Seriously though, I help when I can, which is usually in the form of fixing something for them, providing info they didn't have which makes their lives easier or better, or helping them to see the positive in their situation or just see their situation in a more positive way.

BIG...lol....I can't top that! I feel the same way.

My addiction began when I was seperated from my spouse for a year. During that year I had surgery and was totally incapacitated and this internet became my hallway to the outside world. I made friends on here. Then my family situation improved, and we got back together. However, the internet addiction stayed... I have not released this addiction.

I spend less time on here though. I used to be on here 24/7.
