Re: 10 years of ADD forums this year

A year ago I was lost and confused. Not having anyone to vent or dump on, nobody to get my humor, and a lot of questions about my adhd. Then I found these forums and it was like breathing for the first time..like suddenly not being blind and beholding the sunset. Sharing the same joys and sorrows with like minded people has really opened my eyes, but most importantly my heart.

Re: 10 years of ADD forums this year

Like sarahsweets I too was lost and confused when I found this forum in 2008.

ADDF changed my life in so many ways. While outwardly not much in my life seems to have changed, the person I am inside is very different now.

It's been a little over four years for me. I am very thankful for this site. I've learned a ton and met a lot of terrific folks.

Re: 10 years of ADD forums this year

When I met my ADD coach in 2007, I finally felt what it was like to have someone like me. It's not that other ADDers weren't in my life because they were. However, she was finishing my sentences on how I felt, and I knew that this was something different. I became receptive to her, because she could relate to me.

She set me on a different path.

I don't know how I exactly got to ADDForums. I know I liked to do random google searches on ADD and learn more about it. I suppose it was at these times when I discovered this place.

I came to ADDForums struggling, and I found others struggling with me. I knew I wasn't alone with my ADD, but this forum let me see that I wasn't alone. When I saw it, I became forever changed. Wow. What a great place this is to be able to meet so many wonderful people that have taken me under their wing. The darkness that I came from in my life was a neverending rain storm with few breaks and even fewer rays of sun. I was here a little more than a month, and I realized a difference in my confidence.

I'm forever changed because so many people here invested their time in someone who didn't feel like he was worth it. You cared so much about me, and I sometimes I don't understand why people care so much about me. Thank you so much for loving me.

I always know that even when I'm struggling there are so many others with me. I'm not alone. 30 years of feeling alone and worthless takes its toll, but the year or so of being here has made me so appreciative. I guess the loneliness and pain have meaning, because I'm able to help people.

Re: 10 years of ADD forums this year

I'm member #1891, it will be 8 years for me on May 16th 2012. I have a few postings here and there.

Made some friends a few enemies. I have learned cyberspace allows me to annoy more people with less energy expenditure. Perfect for the "maturing" ADHDer

Actually the folks here have taught me more about myself than I ever wanted to know and then some.

However despite myself, I have met some wonderful people here.

Re: 10 years of ADD forums this year

I've been here for 7 years this year!!

I was 25 going on 26 when I joined the forums in 2005 and the first people I remember were Crazyfeet, Mafiakiddo, Justhope, meadd823 who were a great help to me when I was at a bad stage of my life.

2006 was a memorable year for me on here as I met Boots (who was tracyhbb or something like that back then) as well as Animal and made friends with them, I used to love the phone chats and the advice those two fellow Aussies gave!!

2007 was another memorable year where I got to know and made friends with several different forums from various countries like Grade A from Canada, Movingshadow and FrazzleDazzle from the US and MaoriBoy and 4gotagain from New Zealand as well as Panchovilla from Mexico and many more.

2008 the friendships with the above people continued and this is when my life was starting to change.

2009 wasn't such a good year for me online or offline

2010 was an average year where things were starting to change for the better

2011 was another average year

2012 I tried to leave these forums and I did for a while and now I'm back!! I am slowly adjusting to the changes of dynamics here.

I joined over a year later. I'm number 281 on the list and it totally amazes me that we now have (as of last check) 28889 members!!

The forum has changed so much. I miss my old friends but I love my new friends and that ADD Forums has a worldwide reach now.

ADD forums has been a pillar of strength in my life at the times that I've needed it most.

Are we doing anything to celebrate 10 years?

Re: 10 years of ADD forums this year

Going forward I wish the forums success in reaching out beyond their core constituency of middle-class, college educated 20 somethings that have been diagnosed with ADHD -- without the messy comorbidities, of course. A forum for the rest of us.

An older, poorer, more troubled ADDer can dream can't he?

8 years this summer.

It's been my therapy and I'd be lost without it.

Re: 10 years of ADD forums this year

I waited a year and 3 months to write my first two posts after registering. Another year to post an introduction. I feared sharing, leaving my comfort zone and becoming a part of the community. During those two years I spent a huge amount of time on the forums, I just didn't have it in me to go further.

The real turning point happened on 5.1.08 when I received my first reputation. It struck something deep inside me and made me realize that I am capable to help others through my writing. Up to that moment I had given some advice but I didn't really have the confidence to see the good that my advice can do. From then on that was my focus and my goal, to learn how to help others and through helping others, I helped myself. I chose posts that connected with me on some level and spent hours walking around in circles and thinking and somehow each time I found the answer, not always for the person I was writing for, however, always for myself.

Growth happens slowly, I failed time and time again, dropping out of one degree to start another, just to go through another failure. These forums helped me through those hard times and taught me to look inside and understand who I really am.

There are so many people here that I cherish and respect, I see brilliance every day and admire it, I admire the strength and resilience that people show in the face of the endless odds. These forums will always hold a special place in my heart and I hope I'll remain a part of it for many years to come.

Re: 10 years of ADD forums this year

I wonder what the owner of the site is up to these days. I've forgotten his name. Was it Steve? Dave? I wish, he was still around so I could thank him for creating this site. I hope he's doing all right wherever he is.

Hm, is his name David? I should probably look it up or I'll wonder all night long but I'm too tired. I think it might be David.
