Music recommendations

Hello everybody.

I don't really listen to the radio at all, all of my music I like, I have found through recommendations. Although I am open to listening to any type of music, with my current mood I am looking for a more specific type of music.

I am looking for some slower, mellow music; just something I can "chill" to and let my mind wander. I do not like bands that cannot play their instruments well, especially when itís my favorite instrument, the guitar.

I also don't really want lyrics where they are singing about someone they love, or loved and lost, or anything about a significant other. I know this filters out almost every song ever, but love songs are kind of meaningless to me right now considering I am not in love, and I don't feel like missing a previous love. I want lyrics that focus more on life, or changes, or anything, just not love. Maybe even a song with no lyrics at all.

I do not know if it is because of my ADD or not but one of my favorite things to do when I'm alone is to just sit back and relax while I listen to music and just let my mind go. I thought maybe other ADDers enjoy doing the same thing, so I came here hoping to find some good recommendations.

Sorry for being so picky, but thatís what Iím looking for.

-Brent

Welcome to the forums Brent!

I see you've been here for a month but this is the first post of yours I've read.
I'd like to direct your attention to the wonderful search function on the upper right of each page. My favorite is to go to advanced search and click on the show posts button.

When searching 'Music" I found 61 answers to the first thread, both threads started by RhapsodyInBlue, who I hope will notice your post and answer more specifically than I am . Maybe you can find from one of these posts a suggestion that will steer you in the direction you are seeking.

Also at the bottom of each page as you scroll past the quick reply field are topics of similar interests.

Read, research any words, topics, or questions that may interest you, and please POST

Sorry for creating a new thread. I am quite familiar with a forum search feature and I know how it annoying it can be when new members come to your forum asking questions that have already been answered many times. I was looking for a specific type of music and hoping people would make me some personalized recommendations. Figured, making a new thread would be the best way to find what I am looking for.

No problemo you are very correct this will give you the best chance at a specific answer! I just know RhapsodyInBlue, AncientMusic or someone will be able to add good info...Guess I'm just in the motor-mouth/typing mode!

You guys must download this file:
KYRIE from Requiem from http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Choir/5245/mass.html
Listening to this is like listening to the voice of God!
This composition (by Mozart) is so beautiful that I played it over and over again for about a dozen times and was almost reduced to tears. No words can portray the beauty of this music.

Just trust me! I consider it to be one of the most beautiful musical compositions ever. On par with Requiem Aeternam, Agnus Dei (both from Mozart's Requiem in D-Minor) and Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D-Minor. The one shown here is from Mozart's Requiem in C-Minor. Meanwhile, please pamper yourselves to other musical compositions on the website such as The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute. Mozart really is a true musical genius. Just pure 100% musical genius, thats the least I can say of him. Beautiful, his works ... simply beautiful.

Man I'm listening to it again and again ...... how do you guys feel about this music (the one in the link)?

... Set my soundblaster to the loudest mode ... ended up getting reprimanded from overwhelming and unwarranted attention, you know what that means don't you? LoL ...

Hi Brent

Depending on my mood, i'm not a big fan of love songs, either.

Just now I'm listening to Scissors Sisters. They are a bit different.....

Classical?

Brent,
I'm with you on popular "love" songs.
My tastes run towards classical, and traditional folk music from the British Isles.
But, just because its "classical" doesn't mean I like it all; I find a lot of stuff is just plain jarring to my nerves and very distracting. My liking for traditional folk stems from my dad being a fairly accomplished folk musician.

If I was to recommend one piece of music, it would be Antonin Dvorak's (pronounced Da-vor-jzak) 9th symphony, also called "From the New World".

Avistar reminded me of another favorite: Bach's "Pastoral Symphony"

I must agree, Mozart is a musical genius. That song in the link is wonderful. And also Dvorak's 9th symphony is simply amazing. When I made this post, I didn't really have classical music in mind, but now I think it is exactly what I was looking for. I haven't had a chance to listen to Scissors Sisters yet, but I will get around to it.

Thanks for the recommendations and keep em coming!

I also came across "Greensleeves" by Mozart. This song is very relaxing.

The song that actually inspired this thread is called "Burnt Jamb" by Weezer. There are two versions, one with lyrics and one without. I think this song is great. FYI, Weezer is a rock band.

There is a guy can't think of his name who does a song called "the promise" its very mellow music, I find it great for studying. I want to say his name is Paul something, but don't quote me on that!

Greensleeves is not bad, apart from listening to classical music, u should listen to renown musicals such as the Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. Both of them are beautiful.
