I'm going to look into it, thanks!

If therapy to reduce your sensory issues were successful, do you think you might feel less anxious in general? (I'm thinking about how the constant irritation, or even the sense of vulnerability to it, could cause a person's nervous system to be on high alert all the time.)

Definitely. Part of it is desensitization (which can be trying, but worth it!) and also finding coping mechanism that can reduce anxiety in sensory unfriendly positions.

Re: Anxiety? What's yours?

crowds, money, people in my "bubble", pain (oddly enough)... I can't think of what else. I take Zoloft and have Xanax to use PRN, but I also color when I'm stressed beyond belief and it works amazing well... sounds childish, but I don't question it.

Re: Anxiety? What's yours?

Yoga 3x per week + approximately 20 miles of running per week + 3 days of weight lifting per week + 20 minutes of meditation every morning. With all of this I can stay med free and control my anxiety.

Re: Anxiety? What's yours?

Talking with people in authority, speaking to a croud, being introduced to people, nesessary confrontations, family reunions or parties, church, cops, my kids teachers, door to door sales people (but only when my husband answers the door), being a passenger when other people are driving, garbage day, going grocery shopping, being in debt, going to the dentist, my mother-in-law, road construction, being on time to appointments... These are a few things that give me anxiety.

I just glanced at the first post and said- nope, not reading that, I'll just skip to the other posts. I won't even attempt to read colored text, it's so frustrating. Same for posts without paragraph breaks.

Does it really help? My sensory issues are awful, and I think the one aspect of my disorder that's the most painful to my partner. I know that it's awful having your partner yell at you to stop chewing/ swallowing/ hiccuping/ do anything audible all the time. I can't help it though, even though I have gotten much better at not saying things like "that makes you look fat".

I'm also awful in restaurants- I have to be seated at a certain table, in a certain chair, or else I'm miserable through the whole meal. I can't stand loud places, I become unhinged.

I would be so grateful to be free of this, but I can't imagine anything helping me.

Dexedrine does help, but when it wears off the sensory stuff is 10 times worse. I've been trying mindfulness excercises, and while they help for other aspects of my ADHD, they don't help the sensory stuff at all.

Are there any medications specifically for sensory processing disorder?

I see a bright-post, and I want it painted black.
No colors, anymore, I want them to turn black...

Too much color is just as bad as not enough.
Balance is key.
Otherwise...
you just end up with clown vomit.

Re: Anxiety? What's yours?

I have been diagnosed with GAD and social anxiety. I was on an SNRI for well over a year, but gave it up in exchange for clonazepam which I can use as needed. My anxiety is two pronged. One part isn't so much a conscious thought as a physical feeling. I feel anxious and then rack my brain trying to figure out what I am so worried about. This I have learned to live with. The other part is uncontrollable panic in specific situations. In these cases I know full well WHY I am anxious, I am just powerless to do anything about it. That's when the clonazepam comes in handy.

Crowds also can be very bothersome to me, and I also color sometimes most times its kind of a phase thing though. Along with smoking, drawing, reading I'll go through a 1-6mo period where I'll do these things. For example smoking has always been an on off switch for me, I can smoke constantly for maybe a month or two then just quit and not have any urge to touch one for months. Same with drawing, reading, and coloring I will do one of these activities for a month or two constantly and then not do any of them for months.
