FOR NYC/New York area dexers

been away a while and on focalin substitute for the past 6 months but im gettin annoyed with the medium results. im in nyc and i need some help and update on the dex status. i take IR meds cuz i dont like time release "lock ins" hence no vyvanse, so what is the current IR dexedrine availablity in the area. yesterday upon gettin my focalin my frustration caused me to ask my pharmacist about the dex ir and he just told me teva barr is backordered on my usual 5mg still without any info on when it will be restocked.

SO. NYC IR Dex guys, do you know where/what is going on with IR pills and what my alternatives are (and not vyvanse) please? focalins ok, but its just not the same. thank you.

The shortages are so bad that actually got laughed at, at a couple of pharmacies in NYC when I brought my dexedrine 15mg script. The script is expring in a few days and I have given up trying to refill it.

yeah one pharmacist attacked me, pulling out a gun and letting loose a barrage of hollow points which luckily were blocked by cheetos and razor blades, safety encased of course....

Well, the funny thing is that I was not kidding. One clerk just laughed and said "Not a chance", another one, when they checked the ledger of the meds in stock just smiled and said that they have not had it in over 3 months, and they would have to check it in the database to tell me how long it has been exactly.

The problem is that not only the supply is limited, but the demand has risen dramatically. Pharmacies do not want to, or maybe even cannot all of a sudden import 3-4 times their previous quantity just because they are seeing more scripts for dex. Chain pharmacies on the other hand, do not really care as much about their customers.

demand has risen? i doubt that, why do you say that? or who told you that? dexedrine is a rare prescription unless requested by educated patients. dexedrine is NOT a first line treatment anymore, its almost tabboo to some psychs beleive it or not. some dont know that its even made anymore that its been stigmatized for some time. pyshcs 1st line are adderall, vyvanse, mph (ritalin, focalin), and dexedrine is only dead last after desoxyn.

I disagree with this. Dex is a viable treatment when ritalin is not considered.

Dexedrine is probably the best treatment as far as stimulant drugs, but the fact remains that it is not a common treatment at all and its use has decreased significantly for quite some time. When a new brand name dexedrine, Vyvanse, was introduced, I was very surprised.

Im in Arizona and that same thing happened here about 5 months ago. My pharmasist couldnt get adderall at all. Then he couldnt get the barr brand and could only get sandoz. Thats how I found out that sandoz is a lot stronger than the barr brand (to me anyway)

But now its not a probloem at all getting my meds.

I live in upstate NY & my pharmacist shows that Dexedrine is still not available with an unknown date to get it.I've been without it for over 6mos.

The whole thing with dexedrine is really strange in my opinion.

On one hand you have dexedrine being by far the oldest (even the ER capsule dates back to the 1950s), the least expensive, and for many the best form of treatment.

On the other hand, there is this strange negative opinion of dexedrine among physicians, that it somehow is more harmful and more addicting than other ADHD meds, which many patients simply laugh at all and it appears to have started only after other brand-name drugs surfaced on the market.

Currently you have the shortages, which in my opinion come out of nowhere because after asking my doctor and a few pharmacists the demand for dex, or its popularity, did not increase so significantly that it could ever cause this type of shortage.

Furthermore, this dex shortage does not appear to be temporary at all, which makes absolutely no sense given the fact that the demand is still high and it is only June, and no dex manufacturer could potentially be close to their dextroamphetamine quota for the year.

The same thing happened with Adderall in September of last year, and since then the only brand I have been able to obtain is Barr. I feel like some powers that be are playing the same game with dexedrine, and the med will again become available but at much higher prices. Manipulating the price of a highly demanded resource is extremely profitable after all.

Unfortunately, apart from Desoxyn, Dexedrine is the most effective but possesses the greatest potential of abuse of any stimulant prescribed. Doctors know both of these facts and considering the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD is subjective many Dr.s are leery to go there.

Nope. Adderall has a much greater abuse potential than Dex, because the levo amp makes it more stimulating.
