Day 3 on Vyvance and not liking the way I feel
I'm just curious if anyone else has ran into this. Day 1 I felt nothing. Day 2, horrible migraine (until i got some Excedrin). Day 3, which is today, I felt like i was in a haze and my stomach was a little upset. I have not had any eating or sleeping issues. By the way I am a 30 year old male that was just diagnosed with adult ADD, although I've always thought I had it and I was prescribed 40mg Vyvance.
Anyhow, when I was in highschool I use to take friends Rittalin occasionally and it was a major speed. I hate that feeling and want nothing to do with it. I am curious as to if you guys know of anything else that will work that is not a stimulant. Ironically enough, the only time i feel like i can be a decent member of society is if I am taking a narcotic pain killer. That is obviously not a good thing, but it works. Just so you know I do not religously take them, just on occasion. Do you think that I could have low dopamine levels? I am just all sorts of confused. |

Re: Day 3 on Vyvance and not liking the way I feel
Is this the first medication you were prescribed? as well as the first dosage?
It is possible that it is too high a dosage. Also, I find it weird that your doctor started with vyvanse (dexamphetamine) because it is quite a strong stimulant, most psychiatrists usually go through ritalin first. I would call your psychiatrist or treating doctor to get another appointment and stop taking it for the time being. |

That sounds like way to high of a dose of vyvanse.

Re: Day 3 on Vyvance and not liking the way I feel
I take 40 mg Vyvanse without any issues, but I was previously on 15 mg Adderall XR (which is a similarly equivalent dose according to my psychiatrist) for several years. When starting a new medication, it's generally a good idea for your psychiatrist to start you on a low dose and gradually increase it to let your body get used to it so they can determine your optimal dosage. After I started taking Vyvanse, most of the annoying side effects (digestive upset, insomnia) went away within two weeks. Remember to drink LOTS of water! Otherwise you'll get major dry mouth. Whenever I get a headache it's usually because I'm dehydrated and haven't had enough to eat or drink that day.
You may also want to try a non-stimulant ADHD medication such as Intuniv or Strattera. I've heard Strattera sucks though and is generally prescribed when doctors are afraid that the patient will abuse stimulant meds. |
