Re: if you could...

In spite of my ADD getting "in my way" at times, I think it is an integral part of who I am. Granted, I am on meds for it, but I personally feel that my ADD gives me the mind I have, being able to connect things that are not normally connected and my mind being faster and like a search engine. I am not meaning to brag, its just that my ADD has been a gift and a curse.

Re: if you could...

I gotta agree with you muademt. AD(H)D is a double edged sword. In business meetings, everyone talks too fast. I can't keep up, and I can't pay attention. On the other hand, I can be extremely creative depending on the situation.

Re: if you could...

I know what you mean- I have days where its very manageable but then I also have days where I am like *le reading my textbook...OH LOOK! SOMETHING SHINY!* but I honestly feel that my poetry (I have written over 200 poems) and other traits are impacted by my ADD.

Re: if you could...

i can barely learn to live and adjust to this life, i couldnt imagine adjusting to another one. plus i have autistic tendencies, without the ADHD i might become more socially inept and face more struggle

Re: if you could...

I voted yes, because I assumed you meant if I could wake up tomorrow I'd no longer have adhd. It would not change who I am because my past wouldn't have automatically changed (tho some things back there would be good to have changed too)

I'd like to experience what I would be like without this disorder, I'd like to know what it feels like to not have impairments blocking my way or tangling me up. I think that would be pretty darn cool.

Honestly, I don't know... by 32, the damage was already done. If I could go back in time a few years, then I give a resounding yes!

Re: if you could...

Yes!!

Ideally, I'd love to give up the depression and OCD as well.

I don't mind giving up my past either. If I could wake up tomorrow morning with a brand new brain, one that actually works as it's supposed to and isn't filled with all the crap from my past, I'd be a lot happier. I'd still have problems as everyone does, but I don't see how an ADHD free life could be worse in any way.

Re: if you could...

I voted yes as long as my past remains the same. my past actually sucked for the most part growing up however I believe everything happens for a reason (not to be all zen like) and whatever I endured, it must have helped create who I am now.

Re: if you could...

Honestly, no, I wouldn't get rid of it. Does it pose a lot of difficulties and roadblocks for me in my pursuit to achieve my goals? Yes, without a doubt. But I believe it has also given me a lot of positives that I wouldn't want to lose. I think ADHD helps me tap into my creative reservoirs better and aids me in thinking outside the box. It makes me more energetic and relateable to others, I'm very approachable because my overall demeanor is very warm, goofy, eclectic, and bouncy.

I am the "Tigger" personality of ADHD, for sure. I don't know if I am that way because of ADHD or if that would be my personality with or without ADHD. I don't think it's possible to know if ADHD influenced my personality, or if they're two separate entities. Since it's not possible to know, I wouldn't want to risk losing those parts of me that I love by getting rid of ADHD. I'd rather keep it all, good bad and ugly, than risk losing so many good things in my life.

Re: if you could...

I understand why many would say yes, and give it all up. I ask this, however: Do you think that ADD gives you any "perks"?

Re: if you could...

I voted yes. I would like to give that, depression, and anxiety up.

I would like to feel normal without having to take a pill.

Re: if you could...

I like myself but when I look at all the unfinished tasks and the things I might have done in the previous 66 years, then I think I would give it up. But then I wouldn't be who I am would I?
Its a moot point anyhow, so I didn't even vote.

There has been alot of this question lately... and no i can't think of anything good that ADHD has given me... Once again i will say that the hyperfocus would be good if i could control it. But since i can't, It's just a major pain in the *ss!! Otherwise... the procrastinating, Losing everything i touch, never being on time to any appointments, ect, ect, ect.. Still suck!

And i voted yes... I would give up having a adhd.. ADHD does not define me as a person. I would still be me without it. I would just be a more functional me!!!
