Feeling better with out Adderall

Lately, I have been feeling better without adderall.

I supplement my days without (and with) with nicotine, which does much of the same thing as Adderall, but that's a different story.

On adderall, I seem to 'notice' my adhd more. Now I am not saying it is gone when I am not on it, because it is far worse. I am just saying I don't notice my lack of attention as much (lack of attention to lack of attention, if you will) without the adderall.

And I am an a-hole while medicated. No tolerance for incompetence and easily irritated. Well, without nicotine that is. Off it, I am as nice as can be.

The hell?

Re: Feeling better with out Adderall

maybe but they do work, and they worked wonderfully before. it used to make me very personable before. I am going to see if it is maybe the XR and switch to two IR per day, especially because college is coming up

Re: Feeling better with out Adderall

When I was in high school I really wanted to get back on ADHD medicine because my grades were very poor. The doctor put me on Wellbutrin and it just turned me into a monster. I was constantly screaming at my family, calling my brother awful names, slamming doors, locking myself away. It finally got to the point where I told my mother to F off and she lost it. She started slapping at me screaming and without any thought, I hit her back and made her cry.

It was one of the most horrific things in my life and I could not handle it. I refused to take any medication up until now (7 years later and on adderall). I feel a lot better on this stuff than I did on the other. Maybe you just need to get on something different?

Re: Feeling better with out Adderall

I was on Vyvance before and felt totally irritable on it. Felt like fighting some days... switched to dexidrine ER and things got better... my doctor just upped my dose to 30mgs 2x a day and this is the most calm I've ever felt on meds.

It amazing how the same ingredient(dextroamphetamine) can be just in different forms! Way less irritable, no neck and muscle tention, and head aches so far...

Been on the med musical chairs for three years now and was running out off hope. Found the best doctor in my state on ADHD and so far its been worth it. To soon to tell though.

You might be right maybe the IR may be better for you who knows. If not sounds like its time for a med change or dose change. Was on 70mgs of Vyvance and felt irritable and anything less did little for my symptoms... that's why I was weary about increasing my dex but the outcome has been opposite of what I thought.

Just hang in there and keep working with your doctor to get your symptoms under control.

Also it sounds like a little depression might be something to watch out for. In which case a combo of meds is in order and might be the reason your Adderall isn't working the same.

Good luck hope things get better for you!

Re: Feeling better with out Adderall

I think part of the thing with adderall is that your mood can change while on it vs while off it even on a daily basis from like 10AM to 6PM and things like that. I've had different experiences with XR and IR, but I think part of it was I wasn't paying attention to myself as well as I should have.

In any case, whenever you're having issues with medication, I would suggest trying something else.

Re: Feeling better with out Adderall

Maybe Adderall is not for you... Adderall somedays I have had some "Bad Days" I call them were I am abnormally hostile/agitated. I tell myself to keep myself away from people on these days and do something I enjoy to help lighten my mood.

Maybe Amphetamine as pointed out is not for you. I heard Focalin is supposed to work really well? Can't confirm though. Wish you luck OP!

Re: Feeling better with out Adderall

I would just talk to my doctor, but I don't have one at the moment. My family moved across the country, so I moved in with my grandmother. As of right now, I am visiting my family on the other side of the country before I head off to college. Problem is, my mother has been so busy with everything else she hasn't found time to look for a doctor.

So, besides not having a doc at the moment (I'm am trying to take it only on days I will truly need it) if I show up at a new doctors office, in a different state, being a teen, asking for a schedule II medicine and asking to change it up a little, they are going to think I am wack.

after 1-2 year honeymoon period, turns from a miracle drug to kinda ****ty, and gets really tough to decide whether its worth keep taking or not. Most assume they need it, and therefore keep taking is the only option in their head. It's all perception and Reflecting back on the honeymoon period.

I guess I am lucky then because my honey moon period has lasted more than a year and a half.

Re: Feeling better with out Adderall

well I've been taking wellbutrin with my stimulants. I needed it to help keep me motivated but now when I take it I am just irritated about my place in life and so on. This must me a mental thing and I'm just going to stop wellbutrin since I saw that it can make you feel crappy an irritable. I would say I think I need an antidepressant but it just complicates adhd.
