Had the most INSANE appointment. Super discouraged.

So. My doc left his practice suddenly (and w/o notifying patients) and no one else in their office will treat Adhd.
That's fine.

I've been to 2 doctors since.

The first one, refused to confirm my diagnosis and come up with his own "plan".
This is crucial to me because I don't want every doc I see to just look at records then prescribe meds.

The second one I saw today, barely opened the door to call my name, He RAN (STRAIGHT UP RAN) to his office, sat down and looked annoyed/irritated. I have my bf and mom in tow due to the last appointment and I am wanting a diagnosis, treatment plan.

He never asked for ANY OF MY SYMPTOMS.
NEVER ASKED FOR A QUESTIONAIRE TO BE ANSWERED.
Never asked what previous meds I had been on.

Never asked anything but what meds are you currently taking, I withold slightly and try to confirm I'm there for diagnosis, (his opinion) and I thought he was going to freaking lose it.

I said, I recently got diagnosed with ADHD, I'm on Adderall XR, Prozac, Trazodone, Xanax.

He asked me for my pills. I pulled them out and showed him. He ******* snubbed his nose at me and sat them back on the table.

I disclosed some history to him (I never actually finished a dern sentence because he cut me off)

and he all but stands up saying, You gotta get off Adderall.
With your history, you don't belong on it. This is wrong, it looks wrong, etc

and Adderall is JUST FOR kids. Not even adults.

If kids come in, I give it to them, no problem, no questions.

Adults-well-NONE OF YOU are supposed to take it.

Then goes on to say:
"i will never write you a prescription, it is bad, you need to get off of it, this is bad, I will not give you Adderall."

I, being the soft spoken woman I am, STAND RIGHT UP, and say

"HEY CHECK THIS OUT, I did NOT come in here asking you to write any mother effin prescription.
I NOT NOW, NOR DID I EVER INQUIRE ABOUT GETTING ANY TYPE OF PILL/PRESCRIPTION or anything close to it.
I came here for a diagnosis. I CAME HERE FOR A second opinion and I'm trying to find an educated doctor to treat me. Whatever that entails, be it a referral, counseling, new diagnosis, prescription, etc."

He said
"you're searching for doctor to write you scripts"

I said:

"F.U." and I gathered my bf and mother who were sitting there in disbelief and with looks of shock and horror on their faces and walked right UP OUT OF THERE.

I am so frustrated. I don't have insurance and trying to find a good doc is looking like it's going to cost me a fortune.

I'm so discouraged.

I hate being made to feel like that.

I don't know what to do to go about this any other way.

I'm not sure how I could put up with another doc like that.

I almost punched him in the face.

WTF

Re: Had the most INSANE appointment. Super discouraged.

jesus christ some doctors are just a disaster.

why does it cost a fortune to find a new doctor? I would say you know soon enough if it's a doctor that is willing to listen to you, and a first appointment should take only 10 minutes right?

maybe I'm spoiled, I'm Dutch and my GP referred me to a psychologist, I didn't like how they were treating me, got a new referral from my GP, then ended up with a doctor I felt comfortable with. also, the largest part is paid by the insurance.

but anyway, I know the feeling, you just want to get help to get your life back on the rails, you don't want to deal with all this petty ******** of stuck up people.

What a putz! Adderall XR has been approved for Adult ADHD.

I would absolutely write a letter to the state medical board and report that this doctor refused

to give you a second opinion and basically called you a drug seeker.

He needs to have this on his record. The more complaints that are made about his ethics,

the less chance he'll have to really mess up a patient.

I was pleased with the doctor we saw at KU Med School when my granddaughter was

diagnosed (autism). Have you seen one of the doctors there?

Didn't the office you've been going to provide a referral? They certainly should have.

Wow! Here in Spain is been surprisingly easy for me…living in a little island (Mallorca)… and going trough the public health system!

I hope that somebody helps you find a good doctor near your area.

Re: Had the most INSANE appointment. Super discouraged.

Report it to the Medical Board if you want. Some Doc's are crazier than we on this forum are. They make use look the Brady bunch. I had someone once tell me "Shrinks need Shrinks themselves." There is a bit of truth to that statement.

None of that excuses what happened. People jump to conclusions with out just cause for them. I'm not sure how you accuse someone of drug seeking without asking questions and gathering info. Not to mention he didn't know adderall is used for adults and children. Its BS. Hope you have luck finding a Doc who helps you.

Hey maybe the Doc forgot to take his meds....lol

Re: Had the most INSANE appointment. Super discouraged.

That is horrible. You have already had to deal with your doctor leaving his practice and then this guy. I'm glad someone used sarahsweets famous line but this guy sounds like a total d-bag. This so called doctor needs to be put in check that is no way to treat patients.

If I remember correctly from another one of your post you are in school right now as well. I'm sure this is extremely stressful and does not help out with school. Hopefully you will find a doctor who is better. Do you know anyone like family/friends who could recommend a doctor who will listen and treat you with respect?

Sending positive vibes your way

.......

What a complete nincompoop! I can't call him what I'd really like to without violating some language rules.

He obviously doesn't know a thing about adult AD/HD. I would never go to that facility again. I would write directly to the board AND to the facility he works for.

Re: Had the most INSANE appointment. Super discouraged.

I'm beside myself.
I can't sleep. I always sleep.

I think I'll try to see a psychologist for diagnosis/recommendations/therapy and see how that avenue works out. I read a something online about KU med. I'm definitely going to check them out.

I disclosed some substance abuse (not related to anything about my current diagnosis or meds but I've wrote about it in another thread) and I really can't afford to lie about it right now. Honestly, if I can't come by some relief or therapy honestly, then it isn't doing me any good. If you only take half the problem in there, only half gets fixed.

What really sickens me, is my mom and bf heard this stuff, it's already been hard enough to get them to come to terms with my diagnosis and treatment, let alone some whack job hollering that I'm on a pill mission.

Here's the crazy part: I have 2 months worth of meds.
I DON'T NEED A DAWG GON PRESCRIPTION. I need a little dang guidance.

After being diagnosed, going home and doing some reading, looking back on child hood and history, and my brother was diagnosed as a child, I have no doubt I have ADHD.

Now here's the tricky part: What do I do about it?
The meds work well, I have no abuse problem, been on the same dose for 4 months or so, got an OCD BF who counts them and watches me like hawk.

For a custody case, I've taken 2 UA's a week (all with laboratory confirmation)so they could differentiate between street/script drugs and monitor that I didn't fall of the wagon or use other drugs in combo. Two urine analysis' a week EVERY week for 4 months and there's never been an issue.

So that little "danger danger" path the Adderall was supposed to lead me down, didn't happen.
Heck I'm not even saying I need to be on Adderall.
The danger zone of "what will happen if we give her prescription meds" is LONG gone. I did MY part to make sure it didn't get out of hand.

Get me a mother effin LIFE COACH and you can have this whole bottle back.

I just need a doctor to do doctor things and PROPERLY TREAT ME. For whatever that is (let's avoid putting a label on it) and help improve my quality of life. Please.

I don't care how you do it, with whom, or with what-just please help me.
Listen to me, ask me questions, talk to my family, and please insert your professional help HERE.

My boyfriend (who is the biggest DRUGS R BAD man in the world) not only agrees and attests to my diagnosis and how my life has been different, but pays out of pocket for every doc visit, every script, every follow-up. No questions asked.

We've spent a lot of money on ME lately. A lot.
Adhd ain't cheep and neither am I.
I just feel so guilty trolling around paying office visits for a doctor I'm not even sure will work, let alone, invest in yet another course of treatment.

He and I are feeling the 'adhd strain'. I don't have any family. My mother doesn't even count as a whole person and I'm scared.

I don't work, I am in school full time, but that doesn't bring home bacon.
We're pumping money into a custody case that's blowing my mind.
and I have a mental illness that even under treatment, still doesn't bring home any bacon. But it does cost a lot.

How do you raise your hand so everyone can see it and say "Someone please help me"

You don't.

Re: Had the most INSANE appointment. Super discouraged.

Thanks everyone for your support. I get up at 3:30 am cuz my mind is in it's unmedicated "things are foggy so this is a good time to think about them and sort them out" phase and I check my computer and I read all your supportive posts.

With tears streaming down my face, I just want to say I thank you.

It's a rough patch for sure.

I'm thankful I can come here and write the truth and you guys know what's up.

Every single time.

I hate lying. (I haven't lied, I was just letting it be known that I'm not going to do it)

I hate not being able to show my NT bf what adhd is like.

and I HATE SEARCHING FOR DOCTORS.

but: thanks, I really appreciate the encouragement. Goodness knows I need some.
