Argh! Can't let it go!!

So I see a link on my newsfeed a couple of weeks ago titled "ADHD Is a Fake Disorder Designed To Excuse Bullying and Recklessness" and, of course, have to go read it. The guy who wrote it claims to be a middle school science and history teacher, and seems to me to know little of either. In the beginning, I try being all logical and sharing the science, but as time goes on it becomes clear that this guy has it all figured out and doesn't want anyone messing up his cognitive bias with any of those pesky old facts.

Yeah, it bothers me that someone is spreading this level of ignorance, bothers me even more that he's treating young people like they're faking whatever problems they have, infuriates me that someone who feels this way is working with children in the first place. . .but I can't stop arguing with him! I get a notification that he responded with the same-old, same-old, and I have to get onto the stupid site and reply!

It's clear that he's deeply invested in his misconception and nothing's going to change his mind (now he's telling me he just knows that I'm strong enough to overcome this without eeeeeevil medications!!) but I can't just walk away! Why the heck do I keep on doing this stuff to myself?

I have much more interesting and productive things to do, but I keep clicking on the notifications and opening that tab. . .someone make it stop!!!

I looked it up, I say you round house kicked him in the ***!! good on ya! He 'teaches' science.. holy crap.. I guess there is no conspiracy to dumb us down.. we just have dumb *** teachers.

Hahaha. I used to get into fights my sophmore year with my teachers and my fellow peers. Full fledged fights that would take up the entire class period. They were a certain political group who would not even take in my opinion. They believed everything they said was right, and that because I was the only one of the opposite political group, I must be wrong. (I'm not saying all members of that political group are like that, nor do I want a political conversation, as that is against forum rules and I am just tired of fighting, I am just saying that's how that one class was) I fought the entire year with them and eventually I moved. I stopped fighting about politics (mostly) because I am tired of it. Everyone has their opinion and its near impossible to change.

It's weird when you come across an oppositional idea and can remain open-minded.... until the guy turns out to be a complete idiot, and no matter what you say, and no matter how chill you try and say it... you cant seem to get them off their soap box to have a normal conversation!
Maybe that's why you cant let it go- because hes shooting you down, and imo hes clearly wrong to the point where im wondering how someone with that much brain damage managed to become a teacher.... Jks, hes allowed to be wrong and tell everyone about it.

Let it go for an hour if he responds and see if ur urge to reply calms down? Or maybe two hours.... Give yourself a time-out, not a ban from replying and u might let it go.

Good luck! Id have written him a preachy novel by now!

Be careful in trying to be rational when dealing with the irrational.

Also remember whose problem it is.

Let "Mr. Science" tell that to a recognized developmental disabilities advocate, as it

applies to IDEIA.

Or, if he's really "all that," he needs to take it up with his elected representative, in

terms of repealing the special education law.

More than likely, he was probably forced to honor an IEP or Section 504 Plan, that

negated his "power" over his class room.

Given the choice of being sued, versus backing "Mr. Know It All," it's obvious which one

the school district would pick.

Heh, it probably didn't help that you have a character limit in replies so I had to reply more often to fit it in. I like the idea of trying to just step away for a while, BohoButterfly. Of course, since I'll be heading to bed shortly, that's not so much of an issue.

I sometimes think that a lot of this SIWOTI problem is caused by being told I was wrong so often for so much of my life, along with the ability to reason and argue so much better in writing on the internet versus verbally in real time. It's almost like a drug in its addictive power. . .

Here's the deal man. All that matters is that mainstream psychiatrists and psychologists understand it and that we understand it.

When a bunch of shrinks start saying it's made up, then we should all hit the panic button.

Remember this is a tricky condition. It can look like lack of motivation, lack of discipline, laziness .... frankly, I myself was shock to learn so much after I got diagnosed 4 years ago ... and I was someone open to mental health stuff because I suffered on and off with depression.

Forget him. He's an idiot of the worst kind: he thinks he's smart!
