Re: Xmas in July!

XD Yeah... I watched Scrooged twice in the past few days. But I can't complain, Scrooged is a movie I could watch any time of the year and still enjoy.

Many years ago I worked at a Sam's Club... each year we would always get our first shipment of X-mas merchandise in the last week of June/first week of July. Way before the Halloween stuff ever came in.

Re: Xmas in July!

I don't have cable anymore, so I am blissfully unaware of Christmas in July.

frame313, when I worked in retail we always got our first shipments of Christmas merch in late June/early July too, all 3 stores that I worked in. I couldn't believe that anyone would even be interested in Christmas stuff in July! But when I worked in a very large department store, we had a whole section of the store set up like Santa's workshop.

The only thing I liked about it was that it was so elaborate and off-putting that I could go in the middle of it, sit down behind a shelf, and hide when I was exhausted and tired of dealing with my floor manager. The big Christmas trees and all of the lights hid me from the overhead cameras so nobody could see me slacking off.

(And yes, we really did have Big Brother watching us employees on the security cameras to make sure we weren't slacking. It was the most uncomfortable store I ever worked in.)

Slacker!

The worst part about working in retail during Christmas (besides the customers) was the X-mas music on the PA. I have no problem with the classics like Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby - but how many X-mas tunes did Michael Bolton and Mariah Carey really need to record and do we need to hear them over and over all day long? And anybody who has had even just 1 hit now has a X-mas album. Did you know Twisted Sister made a Christmas album? (for real - look it up )

Fortunately, they didn't start the holiday music where I worked until Thanksgiving.

LOL! Suffice to say, they worked us like horses and I needed a break much more often than I was actually given one. That, and the mind-numbing task of clearing racks and hanging up clothes for 8 hours straight while knowing I was being watched by an eye in the sky made me feel nuts. It was actually nice to disappear into the Christmas corner of the store and hide behind the trees, it was kind of like escaping reality, with the shiny lights and fake snow and glitter on every-freaking-thing.

I've heard the Twister Sister Christmas album, believe it or not! I'm actually a huge fan of Christmas songs done by modern artists of all genres, I can't get enough of them. I like cover songs in general, I enjoy listening to the ways that artists put their own soul into a song and breathe new life into it, so Christmas covers are just an extension of that for me. Relient K does great Christmas covers IMO, and the Christmas album "'Tis The Season to be Gotee" is one of my favorites.
