adderall advice please!

I was just prescribed adderall xr 10mg and today was my 4th day taking it. The first two days I had a lot to do and it was amazing. I felt a lot of energy, slight euphoria, and extreme motivation to get up from the couch and get things done (which I did ) I ACTUALLY found it boring to be sitting doing nothing (so not like my usual self). It was great. Those two days, I got to see friends and I was more talkative and social than usual and had such a great time. There wasn't a tired bone in my body until nighttime for both of those days. In fact, second day was even more intense because I had two cups of coffee also.

I'm inattentive type and tend to enjoy sitting doing nothing, letting my thoughts wander or pacing around the room listening to music, whispering to myself, completely in my own world. Needless to say, when I'm not on the meds it's VERY difficult to break away from these useless habits and begin tasks that are the slightest bit productive. The meds seem to make me BORED to do nothing. It's a miracle. Out of curiosity how in the world does adderall calm hyperactive patients down?? It makes me wayyyy more hyper

On day 3 I had work and it was a calm day due to weather (I work at a golf course) which meant sitting reading a book the whole day. I didn't notice any effects at all until the peak (around 2:30 pm). I managed to read almost an entire book that day, but I felt strangely lethargic and had a headache, unlike the past two days. My body felt heavy. Today I felt tired too and my head felt heavy and I started another book but didn't get through much (it was a harder book to read though :/)

So, are the effects supposed to lessen like this from day to day? Do you not really notice the effects unless you're on the go, doing stuff (as opposed to sitting at work with nothing to do but read)? I'd like to take it every day but will this make my tolerance go up and make it ineffective? My doctor said I don't need to every day. He also said I can double the dose if I need to.

One more thing. If I take it at 9:30 am it seems to fully kick in around 2-2:30 and wear off by 8 pm. I get home from work around 6:30 and usually have things to do so I'm thinking of taking it a little later around 11 or so. Will this give me insomnia?

Any opinions would be great. I know asking a doctor is the best way to go but most people here have experience with this and I'd like to hear what you have to say

Thanks

Re: adderall advice please!

it shouldn't give you insomnia, you've been taking it for 4 days and your body isn't use to it just yet, but if this persists you might want to talk to your doctor about upping the dosage a little bit. it takes your body at least a few days to get use to the sudden surge of energy and it should regulate it's self out soon

adderall calms hyperactive folks like us down by adding a stimulant to our system that helps our brain function like a "normal" person... (normal meaning someone without ADD or ADHD)

but take the meds like you're told to by the doc and if you don't notice any changes after a week or two talk to your doc about upping the doseage

Re: adderall advice please!

Do you take the extended release or the instant release? I've never tried the extended but have been on the instant since I started 3 years ago. I like the instant because you know its going to help you right at that moment and you don't have to take the full dosage if you don't want. I take 20mg in the morning, 10mg in the afternoon, and 20mg in the evening. Be careful how late you take it in the evening though, you definitely won't be able to sleep if you try and take it too late.

Also, the tiredness from reading and such....that happens a lot with me if I'm writing a paper or reading a book all day long. Your body needs to have its natural breaks and sometimes the Adderall prevents that (so you have to consciously be aware of that and force yourself to take breaks). Any time I know I'll be reading, studying, writing papers all day I force myself to take a break every 2 hrs or so that way my body has some time to recoup.

Hope this helps!
