What does ADHD feel like to you?
I hope the question makes sense, I know there are several symptoms to ADHD but is there a general feeling that for you describes ADHD? I like to see what other people think of it as it helps in me dealing with mine.
For me, it's like when you're driving down the highway and you start to go out of range from one radio station and into the range of another. That point where you can hear a bit of both stations but neither one is clear enough to understand exactly what's going on. One may lock in and play a couple lines of song that you hear clearly, then there's hiss and static and you can't understand what's being said. Stupid static. |

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
Well, one aspect of ADHD is like, walking into a tv shop, where all 100 tv's on display are airing a different channel at a different volume and with different picture clarity.

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
Title of the song and lyrics for the police "king of pain" seems to resonate what adhd feels like.
There's a little black spot on the sun today It's the same old thing as yesterday There's a black hat caught in a high tree top There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop I have stood here before inside the pouring rain With the world turning circles running 'round my brain I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign But it's my destiny to be the king of pain There's a little black spot on the sun today (That`s my soul up there) It's the same old thing as yesterday (it`s my soul up there) There's a black hat caught in a high tree top (it`s my soul up there) There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop (it`s my soul up there) I have stood here before inside the pouring rain With the world turning circles running 'round my brain I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign But it's my destiny to be the king of pain There's a fossil that's trapped in a high cliff wall (it`s my soul up there) There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall (it`s my soul up there) There's a blue whale beached by a spring tide's ebb (it`s my soul up there) There's a butterfly trapped in a spider's web (it`s my soul up there) I have stood here before inside the pouring rain With the world turning circles running 'round my brain I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign But it's my destiny to be the king of pain There's a king on a throne with his eyes torn out There's a blind There's a rich man sleeping on a golden bed There's a skeleton choking on a crust of bread King of pain There's a red fox torn by a huntsman's pack There's a black-winged gull with a broken back There's a little black spot on the sun today It's the same old thing as yesterday I have stood here before inside the pouring rain With the world turning circles running 'round my brain I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign But it's my destiny to be the king of pain |

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
I love that song.
To me... it feels like the channel flipping. It's static. It's a constant. You know how when it's windy and you see a piece of paper in the breeze... it's flips and flies... or when a football bounces... it's unpredictable where it's going to go. That's my brain. I'm just along for the ride. |

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
i probably don't have adhd but to me my disorder feels as if I'm out of control. I'm neither in control of my thoughts or emotions nor my actions. I feel like a leaf in the wind. Sorry i really shouldn't be posting but i couldn't resist. Err have i mentioned that i lack control?

Quote:
It's like a giant spherical room of TV's and you're stuck in the center, and no matter which way you turn they're all turned all the way up and there's always a wall of images coming at you. If I'm really tired, it feels more like an anxious fog. Lots of stuff going on just out of sight, and I keep losing track of things I need to concentrate on. |

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
I described it this way to my mum:
Imagine that you have a car, and you are good driver. You know you could drive this car well. Unfortunately, there is a child in the back seat who won't stop crying, yelling, talking to you constantly. Every time you go to turn a corner, or try to decide which way to go, the kid distracts you- and you get lost, or miss your exit. At the worst of times- you look up to check them in the rear view or to comfort/strangle them and by the time your eyes are back on the road you realise you've hit yet another lamp post. The worst part is, if you could just get that kid to shut up, behave, be on your side, you know you could be a good driver, not get lost, and stop having accidents. When my psych asked me how it feels when i'm trying to do my study or write an assignment, the only way i could describe it was it feels like stage fright. He knew what i meant, thankfully- its something i want to do, but every time i try to do it i cannot get myself to start. Once i start i'm ok most of the time. xxBB

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
I feel like my mind is in quicksand. I have a great thought and then it simply dissolves somewhere and it's really hard to find it through all the other muck in my head.
Like how you feel the next day when you didn't sleep at all the night before. If someone asks me something point blank, even if I know the answer, I can't think of it for the life of me. Then an hour later or next day, boom there it is.

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
ADHD feels like I went to the fridge to get cranberry juice, but there was no cranberry juice. Now I'm not sure if I misplaced it, or if in the midst of a brain-fog never bought it to begin with.

To me it feels like a slippery fish, an accident waiting to happen.. a shoe about to drop. I won't know when, it will happen.

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come Watching the ships roll in And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time I left my home in Georgia Headed for the 'Frisco bay 'Cause I've had nothing to live for And look like nothin's gonna come my way So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time Look like nothing's gonna change Everything still remains the same I can't do what ten people tell me to do So I guess I'll remain the same, yes Sittin' here resting my bones And this loneliness won't leave me alone It's two thousand miles I roamed Just to make this dock my home Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time

Am I the only one who started singing the song?
I have no idea to describe how it feels. Lost in translation. |

Re: What does ADHD feel like to you?
an endless stream of weird aha moments. especially the last few months or so. I am 44 years old and I still often feel really immature compared to other people. I make the same stupid mistakes over and over again then stress myself out to get something resolved where if I had learned from my previous mistake it wouldnt have happened in the first place.
It's weird because I'm reading Duff McKagan's book at the moment and he's talking about how her moved to LA in his late teens or early twenties and was living on ramen when he couldnt afford anything else. I make stupid mistakes over and over and sometimes my wife and I have to live on ramen for a few days until I get paid. I take time off from work because I am anxious or stressed out and sometimes just missing one day sets us back. We're still working on getting my wife on disability but that can take two to three years. Right now on average 60 hours a week The only things I know right now is that I am heavily relied on and I will be working until the day I die because I refuse to give up |
