Nuvigil

I gave Nuvigil a try for my inattentive, low energy ADD. I felt the energy boost initially, but then kind of settled down. I think it made me stay awake later, therefore making me tired in the day, though it did increase my stamina to do things. The thing that has disturbed me is that it seemed to make me dumber. Kind of in a haze. My girlfriend noticed it. Slower to make decisions and think clearly. Is Provigil supposed to be better, or is it pretty much the same thing? I noticed some people thought there was a difference.

Re: Nuvigil

I would be interested in hearing more about that too. I felt pretty dumb on it ( Nuvigil). The next day I felt kind of the hangover from it . I won't take it again

I never had the hangover, but I did feel stupid. I had to think about everything I was doing. I gave it almost 2 weeks and things did not improve. I have read posts on other sites where people stated they felt different on Nuvigil compared to Provigil, although there is not much of a difference in the drugs. I think they change a molecule or something so their patent doesn't run out.

Kind of surprised nobody else has commented on this. I guess Nuvigil/Provigil isn't used much for ADD?

Re: Nuvigil

yeah I don't really think it is used all that much , that stupid feeling is the same thing I got from it . I just really didn't know what I was doing and I felt off in a worse way than any ssri or snri can make me feel off. This was just kind of a yuck feeling. Anyways, basically I am looking at an snri and tenex as the things that seem to help with my issue of stress overload and getting stuck. I can't say its really depression because my mind doesn't go blank when I'm on vacation. It takes a few days to a week for it to clear though.

Re: Nuvigil

generally those two drugs are used for narcolepsy and other sleep disorders due to the fact that they arent considered stimulants. They provide wakefulness but lac some of the benefits of traditional simulants.

Thanks Sarah. I keep hearing how Provigil is a miracle drug. Unfortunately, it wasn't a miracle for me.

Re: Nuvigil

From what I understand, Nuvigil is supposed to be the new version of Provigil. I tried Nuvigil and thought the Provigil actually worked better (supposed to be cheaper to...if you can call 1500 for 3 months cheap). I have hypersomnia though. Haven't found something to help with the inattentiveness of the ADD yet, but at least I don't sleep my life away anymore.

Re: Nuvigil

While I personally take Adderall IR, I can swear by modafinil and if it was not for its surreal price I would gladly switch.

Yes, modafinil is not a "stimulating" stimulant, and its effect on noreepinephrine is not as pronounced, but at the same time its effects on cognition, memory access, coordination and reaction time are unrivaled. Additionally, the lack of recognizable CNS response is also attributed to the elevation of hypothalamic histamine produced by modafinil.

In my opinion, modafinil is currently the only existing nootropic drug with scientifically proven effects. Anyone interested in the comparison of the effects of 600mg caffeine - 20mg dextroamphetamine - 200mg modafinil on soldiers' performance after 85 hours of sleep deprivation should read this paper.

Personally, I have used modafinil several years ago, and after taking 200 mg after being awake for approximately 30-35 hours, my reaction time as well as coordination was actually better than normal. I would certainly like to try it again to evaluate its effectivness after trying adderall, but its current price without insurance exceeds $1000 for 30 200mg tablets, making the med completely out of my range.
