Fear of Appointments

Does anyone else HATE appointments as much as me? It has nothing to do with the event that I have an appointment for (i.e. doctor, dentist, interview, get together with friends, vacating home to move to a new one, etc.) but the "perceived" lack of short-term spontaneity in my life.

Unfortunately, most people have busy schedules and appointments are a necessary evil. One or two impending won't break me but having several coming up in the near future is enough to trigger a nervous breakdown in me regardless of the reason.

Can anyone relate with this fear and if you've managed to overcome it, what has worked? (Most of the time, people will tell me to think that appointments are no big deal or some variation of that but this sort of thing NEVER works for me.)

Re: Fear of Appointments

I completely relate. Especially if they are not places I am very familiar with I become panicky -- finding the place, getting there on time, waiting. All of it makes me extremely anxious.

Re: Fear of Appointments

Yes. Everything out of the ordinary is unfathomable for me. Things are ordinary when I do them at least three days a week for a month or so. I do get a bit more relaxed on regular appointments that are rarer, but that takes months.

Unfathomable events are okay - one at a time. And please, that time has to be right now.

So I avoid making appointments unless I absolutely have to. But right now I'm trying to create ... appointment-shaped spaces in my week. Like, Chinese class is on Saturday, almost-the-same as going to work on weekdays. Every other week is therapy, the weeks when I don't go, I can make other doctor-type appointments.

Re: Fear of Appointments

yes; I mean don't have that many actual "appointments" but when there are several things to be at, at a certain time (besides work and band rehearsal), in say over 3 weeks, they freak me out & overwhelm me and it feels like I'm going to have to do them all in 48 hours. (forgetting that there is one entirely free weekend between the events, for example).

Re: Fear of Appointments

I actually prefer my whole day to be planned out for me so I don't have to make any decisions.
