Controlling the heart rate on meds

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section but I specifically want an older crowd to field this question.

My resting heart rate is about 66/min. On the amphetamines it varies between 90-100.

So my question: How have your individual experiences been with the dampening of side effects over time concerning your heart rate in relation with the reuptake of adrenaline? Did it dampen on its own with time? Did anyone try using cardio or sprints to bring their heart rate down on and off the meds? Did it make any difference while on the meds? Any combination of the above?

I'm looking for and would greatly appreciate any anecdotal evidence from both athletes and non.

Have you considered that the dose may be too high? I think it's something you should discuss with your doctor if your heart rate concerns you.

Re: Controlling the heart rate on meds

Stimulants are known to make heart rate go faster at first, it's normal. I don't really pay attention to it that much.

The dose is low. I think you're misintrepretting me. I'm not worried about my heart rate because it's well within healthy range. I'm curious if anyone has successfully used cardio to drop it lower even while affected by stimulants. I don't want to pick up a running regimen if there's no benefit. But it looks like I might just have to try for myself and see.

Take deep breathes, then try not to focus on it. Hyper focus on your task, on something, you may be hyper-focusing too much on your heart, and then this might give you panic, which then makes you just all over the place...

Re: Controlling the heart rate on meds

Verile: I'm on dexamphetamine sulphate and practice parkour. Very high intensity movements for the majority of my training.

From my experience, my heart rate can still sometimes be a bit high. But this all depends on how well my meds are being taken in at the time. I've recently begun monitoring it recently, but that was due to me being hit with the side effects and getting a very fast HR for a few days.

Does the high exercise help? You betcha. Is it lower? Maybe. My resting HR when I'm fit is usually good, and was before meds.

What I have noticed however is that my body temp tends to get quite high while training, and I find it hard to bring back down. I've tried raising this with my doc, but got told that since he has professional athletes for clients and they have no problems, then I shouldn't worry. Because we all have a full staff of medical professionals at our beck and call.

Don't know how well it helps, but that's my experience with it.
