Dang it, forgot an appointment...

...this feels like I slipped backwards. My daughter came in to the room while I was on my computer and said, "What time is your appointment?"

OH, an hour ago.
So I called and rescheduled, but I'm so very mad at myself. All morning I knew I had an appointment, but it just left my head again. Like before the medicine. (Actually, I don't really know if the medicine has been helping that, as it's Summer and we don't really have too much firmly scheduled. But, what has been on the schedule I haven't been forgetting.)

I'm trying not to over-think this, but my head immediately starts buzzing with, "The medication isn't working. It's stopped working." That probably isn't it, right? I mean - all those years of not being able to keep appointments in my head probably created a habit that is harder to break than I thought. Yes? No?

GAH!

Re: Dang it, forgot an appointment...

The best thing to do (and it's what people who have great non-ADHD brains and memories do) is to have a planner and to regularly check the planner.

The challenge for us ADHDers is that we can get a planner and then lose it or forget to check it ... I've gotten much better with checking my planner. My challenge comes when I get cocky and think "I don't have anything happening today" so I skip the planner check. Bad move.

One ADHD coach (she also has ADHD) recently said the iphone and its calendar apps have helped her and her clients tremendously. She keeps her phone with her, and enters calendar dates .... There are reminders she sets, a day ahead, an hour ahead, etc ....alarms go off and flash the appointment.

I'm thinking about getting an iphone when the new iphone 5 comes out. I've been reluctant to do so because I don't want a smartphone to take over my life, but I think it may held with reminders, etc ....

This coach said the beauty of the iphone is that even ADHDers have gotten used to carrying cell phones and we tend to not lose them. So it's with us all the time, unlike planners at the bottom of some clutter pile.

It's trial and error. Be gentle with yourself.
