Adderall 20mg XR with Adderall 10mg IR Booster

Hi All,

I've been taking Adderall 20 mg XR for the past year and I noticed it's been wearing off around 2:30 (I take it at 9:30 am). My doctor prescribed me Adderall 10mg IR as a booster, but I've been having extremely weird effects (I started last Friday).

I originally scared of the high dosage, so I took it in half first, then a half later, which seemed to make me feel dizzy. 2 days ago, it seems to be working pretty good, except it caused really bad insomnia. Yesterday, I got really depressed and nauseated, and this continued until this morning (along with insomnia).

Is it bad to try and consume half (5mg) first to see how that affects me? I also noticed the effect of IR makes me really calm and not social at all. I can focus and do my work, but I have no desire to talk with anyone. XR on the other hand seems to give me the right focus.

Should I continue taking the 10mg for a few weeks to see if my body adjusts? I've never hesitated to take Adderall before, but I literally brace myself for the booster to see what it'll do me next.

If your doctor approves of you splitting your pills to try out 5mg I dont see a problem with trying that out.

I was on a similar dosage (30 XR in a.m. and 10 IR in p.m.) but found that the IR didn't really give me the boost I needed to get through the rest of the work day able to concentrate. Plus, I swear it made me really mean and less patient! Anyways, my Dr switched me to 40 XR in a.m. and it is working great for now. I tried the smaller dose like you but really couldn't notice a difference. If you are used to an XR dose, IMO the IR doesn't do much. Now I have never taken more than the 10 I was prescribed so that isn't to say they don't work, just saying that I don't think you'll notice a huge difference by splitting that small of a dose.

You may just need to adjust. Insomnia is common with initial double dosing. If you like the xr better your doc may just bump you up to the next xr dose

I think these days quality controls have alot to do with what you are experiencing. I switched to the Shire Adderall XR brand name because I don't trust Teva which is the only IR around these days.

I am ADD hyperactive, and the XR makes me lazy/not social. And the IR was perfect for the first 2 takes, now i feel lazy.
Got diagnosed 3 days ago, and hes already wrote me two scripts. 20mg IR, 30mg XR

The 20mg IR lasts 2 hours, XR about 6 hours.

Dont know what the deal is....and after the first XR, ive had this lingering feeling of "why try?" and "nothing will work"

Like I said in your thread, give it two weeks to assess not 3 days. Also, you may be like me and need a higher dose than 30XR. Try taking 30XR + 10IR First thing in the morning, then try 20IR + 30XR if its still too weak. But give it time man, these meds aren't an instant cure.
