Does 10 mg of Adderall equal 10 mg of Ritalin?

I just got started on Adderall after ten years taking four 10 mg ritalins a day. The Adderall seems to last longer than the Ritalin and it works just fine, but because I have crappy insurance, I want to ask the doctor to prescribe me the 20 mg Adderall so I can cut them in half. The 10 mg and 20 mg generic Adderall are the same price. They don't make generic in the XR version and I won't be able to afford the brand name in that.
Should I ask my doctor to prescribe me the 30 mg of generic instead because that is also the same price. My doctor is one of those guys who doesn't know a whole lot about ADD so it was hard enough to convince him to give me the prescription for Adderall.

The general rule of thumb for DEXEDRINE is 1/2 the mg dose of ritalin, so the ratio of ritalin to dexedrine, strength wise is 2:1, but in some people this is more like 1.5:1 - depends on the person. Adderall is a little weaker - on a mg for mg basis - then dexedrine, so I'd image the ratio of ritalin to Adderall would range from maybe 5:3 to 5:4 - so I would think that 10mg of ritalin would re ROUGHLY equivalent to 6-8 mg of Adderall. These are ballpark numbers - a pharmacist would (maybe) be able to give you a more accurate figure, if they even hazard a guess.
