ADD/ADHD and LYING?!
OK so just curious if this tends to happen to others, because sometimes it tends to happen to me.
Sometimes when you know the answer to something, and say your boss comes up and asked you for the answer, do you sometimes lie to him.... like not intentionally, because you know the answer, but it just sometimes doesn't come to mind at the right time, or you just cant find a way to get the answer out the way you want it too.... Or even you just got stage fright or feel nervous about it....???? it tends too happen a lot too me.... i don't mean to lie to PEOPLES!!! It just doesn't always come out the way i want it too.... I just tend to go with the first thing that comes to mind sometimes...... Give me similar experiences or feedback on the topic and your believes in it's relationships with our conditions.

Re: ADD/ADHD and LYING?!
There have been times that I have used the wrong word or phrase and it appeared as though I was lying. Usually they have been times when I was stressed, put on the spot or was being questioned interrogation style.
For instance, I once said "I forgot" when I really didn't mean I forgot. I didn't forget to tell the person what was going on, I just couldn't deal with the situation and compartmentalized it. I should hae said what I meant, which was that I was upset and put the matter out of my mind for a bit. Saying I forgot just popped out of my mouth. It was a quick way to explain the situation without having to go into lengthy detail about what actually happened. Sadly, when this happens, I end up having to over explain because the person questioning me is mad and accusatory because they think I lied, when I didn't. It turns into a huge fight/mess with me backtracking and trying to explain and defend myself. Afterwards, I always find it would have been easier to just explain what happened to begin with. I never do though. I always feel like I have to respond to someone quickly. While I'd love to take my time to gather my thoughts and answer questions using the right word or phrases, I always feel as though I'm under pressure when someone is upset with me and questioning me about something I've done. It never turns out well in those situations. I need to learn to slow down and not let the other persons emotions affect me.

Re: ADD/ADHD and LYING?!
I'd say it's possibly part of impulsiveness.

Re: ADD/ADHD and LYING?!
I used to as a teen, but I grew out of it (also, I was/am a terrible liar). Now I impulsively tell the truth, which I feel might be worse on some occasions.
![]() If I don't know the answer I just shrug and say "dunno" or ask them to clarify it while I try to figure out the answer. By the time they're finished clarifying I know what to say. If someone is rapid fire questioning or interrogating me because they're angry, I resort to giggling and giving smart *** responses, because at that point my mind is racing and I'm never going to come up with an "acceptable" answer fast enough anyway. Sometimes, like BR549, I just sum up what I'm trying to say with as few words as possible and it comes across as the completely wrong message and I have to back peddle and completely explain what I didn't want to get into in the first place. ![]() |

Re: ADD/ADHD and LYING?!
Yessss. At times it's like the equivalent of nodding when you can't hear someone because you feel awkward asking them to repeat it.
I'm a fast thinker, but I'm bad at thinking "in front" of people, and bad at explaining my ideas verbally on the spot. I like to doodle and talk to myself to brainstorm, then I like to write ideas out via e-mail rather than have a conversation. Sometimes work is difficult because of this. I also lie sometimes because I'm ashamed of what I've done due to ADHD behaviors. (i.e., lying to cover up mistakes, to make myself seem more responsible, etc.)

Re: ADD/ADHD and LYING?!
i used to lie about stupid little things when i was a kid.
i dont lie as much now, so much as i dont tell them the whole truth (usually if it's something bad i did and it's my parents asking and whatnot). ive also been accused of or thought of as lying but in reality i just couldnt remember whatever it was i was being questioned about

Re: ADD/ADHD and LYING?!
When I make mAke mistakes I tend too try and forget about it... Or try and put it off untill the last minute, or feel guilty and just hope that they won't see it or just forget about it......
Not so much as I am a lot older now, but it use too be bad.... Now I tend to try and follow the right path
