Question What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

I just wanted to make a thread dedicated to people telling the side effects they experience on Vyvanse.

You can make a list, or you could even detail a rundown of how you feel daily as the drug runs it course.

You can be specific or vague, it's up to you.

Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

My 7 year old started using it today. It took about 30 minutes for it to have a positive effect. But about 4 hours later, he started being depressed and crying non stop. I called the pharmacy and he told me to stop giving them to my son and contact his doctor on Monday. I wonder if I should stop giving them to him or continue and see how he reacts tomorrow. Anybody have this experience with Vyvanse?

Depression was the reason I had to stop taking Vyvanse when I was younger... and the same reason why I have to stop taking it again.

Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

I've had so many negative side effects from vyvanse that I couldn't name them all...and I've only been taking it for a week. Number one worst so far has been the muscle tics all over. Second worst is being so completely unfocused that I can't stand myself. Today was my last day to take it even though my doctor told me to give it another week. No thank you. I'd rather go back to being my normal space cadet self than continue to feel the way this junk has made me feel.

With caffeine: anxiety attacks, tremors, muscle tics, racing thoughts, etc. Very erratic.

After i quit caffeine and got my dosage right: Almost nothing.

Occassional minor dry mouth, some mild muscle tremors that I'm still trying to figure out if they're related or not. Oddly enough, the tremors are most noticable in the morning, so it seems it may be something like a very mild withdrawal symptom.

One week in is a very short time... your system will take longer than that to acclimate to the stimulants.

Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

I had terrible rebound (no energy, inraged, depressed) in the evenings when it wore off and the next morning if I did not take it I could not get out of bed I felt so bad and hung over. This was after about 3 weeks on 40 mg/d.

I am trying dextroamphetamine IR now and the results are much more positive. My medication co-pay is a lot less too!

Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

Loss of appetite, mild weight loss, some jitters if mixed with caffeine and no food, problems with sleep if taken too late at night, moody if mixed with alcohol.
Great impact on my ADD issues about 45 minutes after I take it and I notice better metabolization if I take it with a protien source. Stays in my system til mid afternoon, and then I have a minor crash that I recover from after about 45 minutes.

Thumbs down Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

After only the fourth day, my 10-year old child suddenly started crying when she got home at night. Her head was in agony and could not stop crying in bed. As it was her first ADHD medication, we did not know if we should take her to emergency immediately or wait.

Later side effects included red lips, red ears, red nose, insomnia, compulsive picking to the point of bleeding, no appetite and weight loss. Despite doing a lot of research and being very optimistic about Vyvanse, we did not even experience a placebo effect and did not notice much difference in her ADHD symptoms. The paediatrician suggested trying the next higher dose to see if there will be any benefit, but to stop if the side effects become worse. On the fourth day again, her red lips, red nose, etc. was causing her too much suffering and we had no choice but to stop. We switched to Concerta but the side effects to benefit ratio was almost as bad, and we were again forced to stop after trying the next higher dose after the fourth day.

Should our useless bottles of Vyvanse and Concerta (only 4 tablets used each) be given to the doctor or pharmacy for disposal instead of being thrown in the garbage?

Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

I get really tired after it wears off (which is about 10-12 hours for me). To help fix this, my doctor prescribed an additional dose of Dexedrine in the afternoon to overcome that crash. I'm only a couple of days into this additional therapy, but it seems to be working.

Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

The first two weeks on Vyvanse were awful. Then, like a miracle, the side effects went away.

About 1/2 an hour after taking it I can tell it's starting to work - although I never "feel it" going up. If you eat a high protein diet it for sure works better all day long. I do get cranky when it's coming to it's end in the evening - but usually it's manageable. I tried a "bump" in the afternoon to help this, but didn't like the way it felt since it wasn't as smooth as the longer lasting vyvanse, and made it hard to get to sleep.

But side effects long term? None that I can really think of. Oh, except that I do overheat more quickly when I'm on the medicine. Hot showers make me absolutely nauseated, and a heated yoga class (which I used to really like) is history.

Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

Female; 16-years-old; 5'4; 125 lb. before vyvanse/on drug holidays, hovering between 122-124 lb. on weeks with vyvaanse

I've been taking vyvanse for a little over a year now

45 min-1 hr minimum to kick in, ~2 hr to start working fully

Symptoms:
- slight muscle tremors right as it kicks in but goes away (~1 hr in)
- dry mouth that goes away ~4-5 hr after
- negligible weight loss (see above)
- more withdrawn and reclusive from socializing (I'm trying my best to combat this though)

Another thing: I'm not 100% sure if vyvanse is the cause of this, but I've become almost bipolar/cyclothymic with my daily moods (I can go from feeling on top of the world with the most euphoria and exuberance to a hole of despair, depression, and an absolute lack of self-esteem). Doesn't matter if I'm on meds that day or if I'm medless, but the rollercoaster'ing and rapid change of moods gets really irritating..

I don't know if it may have to do with that I'm a teen with potentially raging hormones (I actually experience very very few PMS symptoms.. Really none at all. My moods aren't particularly exacerbated either when it comes to that time of the month)

Do any of you experience stomach aches? I was wondering if having caffeine is making my stomach hurt and if I were to quit drinking coffee it would quit happening.

Re: What Side Effects Do You Have On Vyvanse?

Here is my story.
At 5 I was told I had ADD. So I got on Ritalin. Somewhere are around 7 I got off and stayed off my whole adult life.
I have, now at 42 been married 2 times and Engaged now for 4 years. In the last 4 years I have had 8 jobs. Some change due to economy, some I just quit for a better pop and two I was fired from. One for allowing some idiot employee do something wrong then a customer called my boss and fired me for not managing him, the other a supervisor was promoted and decided to clean house. Me? I'm very well educated and most people think that I'm rather charming and funny.
In the last year noticed a lot of change with me and my current relationship. I find that being on 30mg has help me remain stable with work. I tend to go on and on talking ( in sales) so It helps me formulate my thoughts better. I notice at night I tend to get a little sleepy early, doze off then back up for a few hours. Or go to be bed at 10 and wake up at 4-5 and not go back to sleep. I take it early with breakfast so I can have food. I have not only lost but 3-4 lbs. I'm 6'2 and 200-205 pending but have been that weight for a while.

What I have noticed more in the last month has been being on the med and my temper has gone up. Also I noticed that I get a little bit more of a mood swing. When days are good it's like being on cloud 9, but when bad it's really bad like serious depression. I don't think I'm bi polar from what I read and I am certain it has a effect on the medicine. I suppose I am becoming more sensitive now that I can slow down and really look at things. Recently I have separated from my fiancé and it was my choice. But, going from a loving house to and empty place is not helping. Not sure if I should get off the meds for a week or so then get back on or try something different. My therapist has me working in stages on things for both of us and I'm getting more impatient with her suggestions. I lie un satisfied now and it gives me too much time to think.

Any thoughts please share. I have not felt like this before. The typical side effects are to there except for sleep and being somewhat short fused. Bt what I have really noticed is the depression kicks in and the meds seem to keep it going...advice?..

It's a good bet. Try quiting caffeine for a while and see if it helps.

Just be prepared for at least three days of feeling like crap if you're a habitual coffee drinker. A week is probably more realistic; that's how long it took for me
