So I just started my Ritalin

Hello everyone,

I'm 24 years old and I'm from the United Kingdom, It's taken about 2 years and I finally got diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. I struggled all the way through my younger years and throughout school without being diagnosed.

I always felt different / uncomfortable *to the point I no longer really leave the house* around people and my brother was diagnosed with Autism about 5 years ago, I saw a massive resemblance between our behaviour and thus the struggle to get diagnosed followed.

So today I started my Ritalin and what can I say it's calmed me down massively I can concentrate and I don't feel like I'm completely run by a motor all day, It's a massively relieving feeling because nervousness and concentration has been a huge problem for years.

My question Is I've been put on 5mg of Methylphenidate Hydrochloride by "Neolab" I took my first dose when I got home around 4pm as the chemist had to order In my prescription and the effects started to die down around 7.30-8pm.

I'm currently on 3 doses a day and I'm really worried about my doses running out earlier than I would feel comfortable with, If my dose was increased would it also increase the duration of the effects or just the strength of them.

Thanks for any advice given to me,

Jamie

Wow, we are so much alike! I'm 24 years old and didn't get diagnosed until recently. I've thought of myself as possibly being autistic too, but I also have mild anxiety issues (along with my ADHD) that could explain my social issues (I haven't been diagnosed with anxiety yet, for now my psychiatrist calls it adjustment disorder).

I'm a loner and don't really have the motivation to go out to meet people.

I'm also on Ritalin and have to take 3 a day. I had the same concern about running out, so I only take it when I think I really need it.
I've also tried Adderall because I wanted less of a urinary side effect (problems urinating), but Adderal made my kidneys hurt, so I got another medication to help me with urination and now I continue to take my Ritalin once in a while. I'm thinking of trying Strattera though to see what happens.

Wow we really do have so much In common, the anxiety really Is a killer It's completely destroyed any option of having a social life for me but after today I'm actually feeling pretty happy with everything.

I was very lucky and so far after taking 2 doses haven't come across any side affects but I guess tomorrow will be the real test to see how everything goes, as It will be a full day.

It's funny I'm almost looking forward to It cause of how much of an affect It had after the first dose.

I'm not really scared about running out my doctor Is a great guy and was really forward about me calling him up with any issues I may have.
