Spent a day unmedicated...

Because of experiments with titration, I was short two days of pills before seeing my pdoc again for first follow up. I emailed the office and they said just pick two days to not take it, everything would be fine.

I chose yesterday because I didn't have much going on (and will probably also choose Sunday for similar reasons). WOW...I think the meds are helping me more than I had realized.

I was short tempered, low energy, impatient as h***, totally unmotivated, and generally all over the place (DH calls it butterfly syndrome). I could tell in my writing, even. Thoughts just seemed disorganized, where this morning, 45 minutes after taking my pill, I can track my thoughts better again. I'm not looking forward to my next off day!

I still think I might need a higher dose if I can tolerate it, or maybe a booster, since its Vyvanse and it's only lasting about 7 hours or so, but dang I guess I'm definitely seeing improvement.

Thoughts? Anyone else notice stuff like this?

Re: Spent a day unmedicated...

Oh yeah, all the adhd meds narrowed my urethra, although the amphetamines not so much (they just bother my kidneys)

I'm taking Bethanechol to try to control the problem,
but too much of it or taking it at the same time as an adhd med isn't a good idea.

Re: Spent a day unmedicated...

I am the same. If you took a break for two consistent days the second day would probably be much more intense, it was for me.

The only time I have ever not taken mine was when my insurance ran out. The first day not so bad but the second day felt like someone unchained my brain and let it run free. Then I started getting really hungry.

I am very vigilant about my meds and making sure I do not run out for this very reason. Now I just need to solve my insurance dilemma before mine runs out soon.

Omg thanks, that made me LOL! I totally had a visual of a brain with chains hanging off it running down city streets...it had hundreds of tiny feet like the Luggage in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series...complete with a person chasing after it.

Yeah, it freaked me out good. I'm not looking forward to day two... Ugh.

I always imagine my medicine chaining my brain down when I take it every morning, keeping it from wondering off daydreaming. I have a very visual way of thinking if you couldn't tell lol

That's brilliant though! I always thought about it like it was something that I'd left somewhere around the house, misplaced and impossible to find...like finding your keys in the freezer. I had a dream like that once, where I was searching everywhere for my brain and couldn't find it. I never did locate it...

Re: Spent a day unmedicated...

I feel sometimes as though mine just walked off without telling me.
Like when you are talking to someone over your shoulder and you turn around to make eye contact or gauge their reaction, only to find out they are not there any more.

I don't think it's so much that our ADHD gets worse, it's that we realize what it's like to function semi-properly, and we REALLY can tell the difference w/o.

I understand... Meds made me realise how bad my ADHD was. And although I'm only taking Concerta for 7 weeks, I didn't even dare to skip a day yet since I see my ADHD coming back with a vengeance late into the evening or in the early morning before I take my meds.

Re: Spent a day unmedicated...

I went unmediated today, first time in ages. It was awful. Basic, everyday tasks at work seemed insurmountable, I couldn't sit still for what seemed like 30 seconds and I kept making some really dumb mistakes on paperwork. Do not want to relive.

Re: Spent a day unmedicated...

for all kinds of reasons, I have gone unmedicated for a day up to a week for the last sereval years......really hate it ......

worse on dix IR than adderall though ......there's a definite horrible restlessness when you stop dex suddenly ......in addition to the regular ADHD symptoms .....

with adderall, I didn't get the restlesness, but things did not get done !

I can do 2 things without meds .....read....and cook ( but not clean up ) .....and that's it ....can't even get anything done on the computer either .....
