How can I find a great doctor to treat my sons's ADD/TS/OCD? I'm in Kansas.

We've been dealing with this awful triad of disorders for quite some time now. I have my toddler running around at this moment, so I can't go into great detail. I have posted here before however, so feel free to look at my posts from 2011.

I'm concerned about the meds my son's pediatrician has him on, because from what I've read, there is a major interaction warning for them. He is taking 2 mg of Orap and 20 mg of Lexapro. This is for the TS and OCD. We aren't medicating for his Inattentive ADD because that seems to worsen the tics. Ugh. Anyway...he is an 8th grader this year, and is doing horribly in school. I really feel the Orap could be making his inattentiveness worse. I'm nervous to take him off, however, for fear the tics will return. I bought a supplement called Focus from Pure Matters, and started him on them 3 days ago, but now I'm worrying that maybe I should check with a dr before adding supplements. I'm in Kansas and am really wanting to find an excellent doctor who can help us. I'm considering calling Children's Mercy in KC to see if they have a specialist, but would love to know if anyone has any recommendations. KC is 5 hours from us, but that's fine. Im willing to travel wherever we need to get some answers. We saw Dr. Moe from Denver Children's, and I wasn't impressed. He just told me that all my home research was correct, and that was it. Yep, your son has this, and yep, follow your ped's advice. Wow.

Sorry if this is sounding scattered. I just need some advice.

Thank you all,
Heather

Re: How can I find a great doctor to treat my sons's ADD/TS/OCD? I'm in Kansas.

After watching the Dr. Phil show for years I saw a pattern in his advice for the guest on his show. All the medication in the world will not help unless the diet is in order. Then the family needs to help with the coping skills for all involved. Dr. Phil always talked about Dr's. in the west. So I decided to move west (I live in Ohio). I moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I found the best doctor there that really helped me. The clinic is called "The Meno Clinic" Center for Advanced Medicine. This doctor not only helped me get my diet under control but also helped me get my ADD diagnosis. I was on medicine for other things that I was soon taken off because of wrong diagnosis. I'm so much better now, just learning how to control the impulses that no medication in the world will stop. Since I have no family I have to rely on my intuitiveness on how I treat others. Its a learning process that can't change over night so I'm a work in progress. It took me 50 yrs to get here and I'm so much happier now.

Check out the clinic on Google and see what you think.

The OP asked for resources in Kansas. It's very impractical to suggest she uproot her family and move to Wyoming especially after she specifically asked for help closer to home.

5 hours from KC eh? Looks like we live halfway between the two (just east of Wichita).

We have some good doctors, but I don't think any of them are great.

We went to KU med center to get my granddaughter dx a few years ago.

She sees a psychiatrist at the mental health clinic in our county.

I know it's very hard to find good medical care in western Kansas.

My sis used to go to a mental health clinic in Kiowa County, but that was

before the tornado. I don't know if they were able to build back there.

Probably nowhere near your location - I just know that's about 5 hours from K.C.
