Re: Going to the Doctors tommorw might have ADD?
Good luck Luisc, would suggest a specialist though. My recent attempt to ask for some sort of diagnosis was an exercise in humiliation first by the referring doc who wasn't interested in even listening (implied I'm malingering) and then the psychologist just said 'ADD--it doesn't exist' and that was it.

Re: Going to the Doctors tommorw might have ADD?
Paddles, I just replied to an earlier post of yours, and I'm really sorry but not surprised to see that you have come up against such ignorance. I hope that that doesn't have to be 'it'. Do you have the opportunity to see anyone else, or is there some local organisation that equivalent to MIND here in the UK that could suggest who you could ask to be referred to? There can be a sad lack of understanding and caring amongst doctors and others, who really ought to know better.
Luis, it sounds as if you could profit from seeing someone who understands ADD. Good luck, all. As I said in another post today, I see my GP on Friday partly to discuss what to do about my ADD, pretty much self diagnosed so far, a few months ago at age 61. My GP's initial suggestion about referral was cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with someone likely to have no great knowledge of ADD. That suggested route was partly because funding for CBT happened to be readily available. Good luck, all, R |
