Just a crazy idea!!

Well maybe others have had this idea before.

Do you think you have what it takes to be an adhd coach or is that a stupid idea. I mean some of you know so much about adhd and know all the tricks of the trade so to speak. Just because you are unable to put your knowledge into practice in your own life, doesn´t mean that you are unable to help others.

I cannot process my own paperwork to safe my life, yet I used to get paid to do this for other people who couldn´t speak Spanish. I have still yet to change my driving licence after 8 years but have done it for other people.

We all know what we should be doing but just can´t do it because we have nobody motivating us, we are just left to our own devices but motivating and helping others manage their adhd lives could be very motiviating, if you see what I mean.

Am I bonkers, cause it sounds so good in my head.

Re: Just a crazy idea!!

Just from reading your posts I think you'd make an excellent coach!

True enough that helping other people is often much easier than helping ourselves.

Re: Just a crazy idea!!

Well, when I lead group projects I'm really good at keeping track of everything everyone else is suppose to be doing.

But, I'm also personally vested and interested in those projects. I don't think I'd be as interested in someone else's dishes or laundry. I'd get bored after the novelty wore off and then get irritated with them for making me feel like a babysitter.

Re: Just a crazy idea!!

I've often thought "dang, I should be an ADHD coach! I love talking about ADHD! I can't coach myself for crap, but I'm so good at telling other people what to do!"

I think it would be so awesome if I could finally make a living for myself by telling people how make a living for themselves. I have this vision of a long chain of ADHD coaches coaching each other. None of them have "actual" jobs, because people with ADHD don't like actual jobs, but we can talk about ADHD all day! Edward Hallowell is at the top of the chain

Yes, I do. And yes, I want to.

Inquire within.

Re: Just a crazy idea!!

I do offer people tips online if they want them, and I've been asked by people randomly for some pointers.

I'm good at setting things up for people, showing them the way to best structure different tasks, and prioritise.

It would be a good move for me because I like to teach people and I can take into account their limits. I love to problem solve.

Exactly
I think you would be able to empathise but at the same time be firm.
I also highly rate your skills of diplomacy, a skill in which I am sadly lacking

I would either lose patience very quickly with them or feel sorry for them and get drunk with them instead.

Re: Just a crazy idea!!

yikes, not for me!

but I might have liked to be a therapist. I would probably end up getting too wrapped up in the patients' problems though....

Re: Just a crazy idea!!

My adhd coach/therapist has adhd. I've only seen him twice so far but he's pretty good. And honestly, if I was going to someone who didn't have to deal with it themselves, I wouldn't have as much confidence in anything they said. but then I just think it's stupid when ppl try to help someone else thru something when they've never been thru it themselves.
