Feels Like a Racket

I'm brand new here. I just realized I have been living with this for my entire life. (Almost 40) My success has come from being able to talk my way out of stuff, con, or just get by.

Over the last few months, it feels like it has caught up to me. All of the proscrastination has killed me and everyone wants progress. Essentially, everything is falling apart.

I've never been the type to ask for help, go to the doctor or anything. But I agreed and went. Health is fine, but explained my trouble focusing etc..

Doctor recomends a physcologist. I go for a meeting, talk for two hours.

After checking my insurance, they agree to have me "tested" a few weeks later. I show up for the test and answer about 300 questions in 19 minutes. They were willing to schedule me a follow up a month or so later to get the results.

I talked them into gettng me the results faster (Today).

I feel like I am going to walk in and they are going to reccomend more tests or more counseling. I honestly dont have the time to wait months to get solutions while they figure out ways to get paid.

It just feels like a racket. I had a lot of eggs in that basket. I'm not going back if they dont present anything more concrete. I've given them a couple of months and my insurance has given them a lot of money. It doesn't seem that the process has any sense of urgency that I am looking for.

I dont have a plan if this happens, I guess just keep trying and/or let it all fall apart.

Re: Feels Like a Racket

There are no tests of any kind that can he used to diagnose adhd. A doctor is often a better solution than a psychologist for diagnosing adhd. If your paying our of pocket then it sounds like a money maker for this person.

Re: Feels Like a Racket

While there are no "test" for ADHD some health care practitioners will use them to rule out other conditions that might present the same as ADHD - I will however agree that after psychologist exam physical exam and "interview" by a psychiatrist some one some where should be able to come up with some sort of diagnosis and some thing resembling a plan!

I had to have a physical exam before my doc would see me - I had a history of being misdiagnosed which may have helped him to narrow it down some. It took him three hours some observations, one missing never to be seen again pamphlet and $300.00 bucks to come to a diagnosis ADHD with hyperactivity! {I was diagnosed back in 1993}
