Poetry Section is in the 4th dimension

Some sections in this forum are spooky and twilight zoneish.

I can create a thread in the poetry section but finding it is impossible.

As much as I enjoy spamming the Creative writing section with my poems (I don't) I'd really like to see a poetry section that makes sense.

It'd be awesome if comments were allowed too, so it doesn't feel so eerie and abandoned.

Thanks,

Invitrocanibal

I agree that comments should be allowed in the poetry threads (and the rest of the creative writing threads)

Are you prepared for constructive criticism? Not everyone will like your poem. If members are ok with opening that door, more input from members will be needed, we can look into it.

Meanwhile, if you're itching to get some feedback on your poetry, you could post it in "other creative endeavors".

Re: Poetry Section is in the 4th dimension

I love poetry. I love talking about things. But my value as a poetry critic is very close to zero. I think it almost takes another poet to be a decent poetry critic. I can give worthless feedback, but would you really want it?

My personal instinct would be to keep the poetry section working as it does, and posting in a different section if you want feedback.

I think splitting the thread/sub threading it with a section for poetry/writing that allows feed back and criticism and another that doesnt would be reasonable as itd be a free choice.

Ive learned so much about writing since using the forums and thats what I use it for, for the feed back. I really think almost everyone else uses it for the same reason but I wont generalize that.

Thank you for listening

There are two kinds of feed back, honest feedback and dishonest feedback, as long as its honest I'd be happy.

If the feedback is confusing and unclear then ill know what I wrote was confusing and unclear, which will help

Re: Poetry Section is in the 4th dimension

When I first started posting in the Poetry section I had no idea people wouldn't be able to comment or leave feedback. I have to say I agree with Invitro, I was very disappointed when I realised. The poetry section suffers for it, I believe.

It's like a vault, echoing and lonely.

Re: Poetry Section is in the 4th dimension

I agree that it would be more useful to be able to have feedback or to talk about your poetry (not that I ever post anything) but I think you'll also have to be prepared for non-constructive criticism and judgmental or inadvertently hurtful responses. And, maybe worst of all... You'll still have to be prepared for no responses at all. If that's not a problem then I guess, enabling feedback on at least one board would be great.

I'm wondering if it might help to explicitly ask for feedback or if you d like to discuss a particular aspect of your poetry to specify that.

Also, invitro, I could be wrong but I think a lot of people use the "new posts" button feature to find new posts rather than browse specific boards so it doesn't really matter so much where exactly you post it.

Re: Poetry Section is in the 4th dimension

Early in its infancy, the Poetry section was open to comments, and some members took advantage of that to leave many abusive, condescending, and rude comments. Member complaints skyrocketed, which created an inordinate amount of work for the forums staff.

As a result, we locked down the ability for members to comment on poetry posts.
