what to do with a small girl in rainy weather?

i'm making a poll. you can select multiple things. she's not yet awake. she can do easily two things in a day broken up by a nap. we went to the exploratorium and had lunch at the rotunda yesterday, so don't want an exact repeat.

there are two temporary museums, the colour factory and the museum of ice cream...but tickets are tough to get, though i might be able to finagle some. i've heard that neither is where a 2.5 year old wants to be, though.

oh! asian art museum or cable car museum. she might enjoy that. i wish we had a firetruck museum. ****, we'd be there daily.

also, i'm not going to certain places in SF. like, i don't go to fisherman's wharf, out of principle.

anyway, what would you do with a small girl on a rainy day. she MUST get out a good amount of energy and get some fresh air, so at least one option must be outside.

EDIT: i think i messed up and you cannot chose more than one. i really wanted you to be able to choose up to three so please comment if you care to give additional votes!

Re: what to do with a small girl in rainy weather?

I'd get a good looking trunk that she can rummage through and fill it with dress up clothing, old high heels from the thrifts, etc. Little girls LOVE doing this.

Re: what to do with a small girl in rainy weather?

I would do one of the exercise options early on... And something more relaxing for the second half

She might be SLIGHTLY young for Rick climbing. We have these trampoline parks... She would LOVE that... I'm sure they have them in SF. the smaller you are the better a trampoline park is.

I would say a museum if she would like that (though she might be young for an art museum.. DD didn't really appreciate that until 7 or 8. A kid oriented science museum could be awesome.

Or frankly.. after a day on the trampolines.. puffin rock isn't a bad idea..

Re: what to do with a small girl in rainy weather?

I don't have little ones, but the little one inside of me likes to do the puddle scene when it rains.

I'd do that, then do lunch with some coloring and drawing involved, then maybe visit the library for a good book or two or even maybe visit one of the kids program thingies they do, then head home and watch puffin' rock and read the books before sleepy time.

I don't know what she would prefer, but I'll be over this afternoon for the beach and some puffin rock

Re: what to do with a small girl in rainy weather?

Beach in the rain can be awesome if it's not too terribly cold. Follow that up with a hot drink of choice and a TV show and that seems like a great day. 2.5 year olds ar fickle, so open-ended seems best.

I remember as a little kid I loved playing in puddles if it was a puddle I wanted to play in it

Ithink first exercise and then something calmer like Steve said is a great plan. I vote for the science museum. That sounds awesome. Wait..if e isn't interested can I come??

When I visited the us SF was my favourite city. Stunning from 360 degrees. I've never been yelled at by so many strangers though... it's probably just me though...

I'm curious: what's wrong with fisherman's wharf?

Re: what to do with a small girl in rainy weather?

we went and played in the tide pools at ocean beach in the rain for a bit. then it started raining super hard and we got drenched, so we went and got pho and changed up in the bathroom of the restaurant. now she's all full and exhausted and asleep she should be waking up soon and it's still pouring rain, so i think we'll be watching some puffin rock.

fisherman's wharf is overrun with tourists and bad chowder. BUT...i can see why people go if you don't live in the city.

we have a membership to the academy and i knew it'd be busy as all hell because every other mother would have the same idea to go ...so we puddled and ate pho and will watch some puffin rock

if you come back to SF, as i said, we have an academy membership...and exploratorium and zoo...so i'll take you and fuzzling

My daughter and grandkids really enjoyed going to story time at the public
library. Especially when they had puppets.
