Why do posts need to accepted by a mod?

Just wondering, quite annoying posting something and it shows up the next day.

Does this forum have issues with new reg members in some way? I.E spammers?

Hi Maheshwara, and welcome to ADDF!

Yes, we moderate new members' posts for a short time because there are plenty of wannabe spammers out there -- not all of whom are caught by spambot filters during registration.

In addition, new members aren't always aware of ADDF's guidelines (for example, the need to get Admin approval before recruiting participants for research studies, limits on discussions of certain "hot-button" topics, and a privacy-related rule against posting real names and e-mail addresses), so some posts from new members may be "returned to sender" for revision before they can be posted.

All of the moderators and administrators here are volunteers. We try to approve (non-spam!) posts from new members promptly, but there's often a delay that can range from a few seconds to a few days (rare), depending on who's online at any given moment.

As you continue to post, you'll quickly "graduate" out of moderation and be able to get instant gratification from posting...

...Or instant regret! On a related note, there's a very short window of time -- a few minutes -- after posting when you can edit your post. After that window closes, the post is there for good. ADDF does not allow post deletion as a general rule, so please be careful about posting things you may not want associated with you forever. People who like to revise things, or who need a few tries to say what they mean can compose posts in word processing software and paste the finished posts when they're done. (Or just post again with a correction.)

Sorry for the inconvenience and delay, and again, welcome!
