Smile Peekaboo!

Once again I sit down to write email and, believe me, there is a ton to write...
Procrastination is an art I have truly mastered over the years!

<quick visual flash of acceptance speech at add awards ceremony>
<ahem>

But... once again.. I find myself checking out the ADD message boards instead.
Something which seems to have become rather a habit of mine this past week.
Just a quick look, I told myself. Tonight is email night and you really oughta get to bed!!

<info accumulator number 5 swings into action... need input.. need input>
<warning.. hyperfocus alert..warning>
<'getting organized unit' throws itself to the floor, fists pumelling>
Override: <...ignore... ignore...>

So... a few hours later... here I find myself.
Its past 3am but, despite that voice in the back of my head somewhere -
'Email! Bed! #&%$#!! What The??!!'
I decided to give myself the night off... err.. up.

<meaningful foot tapping emanates from 'duty' section of subconscious>
<'getting organized unit' turns red and threatens to self-destruct>
Override: <...ignore... ignore...>

But seriously...
I can sleep all day.
There's nothing I *have to* do tomorrow...today..
Not *have to*!
And besides, this seems more important than anything else right now.

<'new information' swells... and swells.... >
<'self compassion' shuffles in from.. well, who knows where it goes so much of the time but it seems to be showing itself around here a bit more these days... and this time it seems to have... seems to have...a gun?!??>
Override: <.. ignore... beeep...ig.. err.. malfunction.. malfunction...zzzpopzing>
<BANG>
<'new information' explodes in a kaleidoscope of color>
<'new hope' bursts forth ... >

And just how often have I found myself in the company of someone who actually found my.. er.. exceptional mind.. comprehensible?
Once? Twice? No more than that surely!
A group of you?
Never.

<'getting organized unit' falls silent in awe>
<new hope lights up the universe>

I am swimming in the recent revelation that I'm not so bizarre, strange, screwy - *defective* - after all.
Just ADD...
And I am not alone...
Just part of a bunch of incredible beings.
And though I realize I've a long way to go in terms of learning to live with ADD, I also know I've come a long way since chancing upon some adult add info just five weeks ago - officially 'diagnosed' 1st Aug.
Its been the journey from suicide to smiles. And its enough for now.

<'getting organized unit' nods enthusiastically... agrees to be more patient...>

I am awash with gratitude at having found you.

Light N Laughter,

Opal

Hi and welcome again,

I know just where you're coming from with that intro, even down to the uncertainty/dithering about where/how/when to begin posting/introduce yourself etc. I'm a master of procrastination too (after this post, I'm going to do some work, though...).

Stick around!

Jonathan.

Opal D --

Welcome!

Sorry, you have met your match here. We WILL understand what you are saying (and laugh with you, because it's all so true....).

Keep up the postings -- you write well. I notice you use the "Flash Flood of Consciousness" technique....

Wow! What a wonderfully warm welcome. Thank you

I'd have responded sooner but the 'getting organized unit' really took a bashing that night.. lol.

So glad you were amused, not confused.. as I hoped you'd be.

Must be home!
<deep smiley sigh>

Ken.. I was curious.. what is this 'flash flood etc' technique? I just write & it tends to come out different depending on the mood, if you know what I mean? Usually I write how I'd talk..

Light N Laughter,
Opalx

Opal --

Sorry about not getting back to your Q immediately. I Just now connected to the 'net and and saw 81 new emails (74 spam) -- I usually see 10-20 a day.

I must have blinked and a few days went by....

About "flash flood of consciousness" -- that was a feebloid attempt at humor {8p -- I was punning on "stream of consciousness". Seems to be an ADD thing (your writing style, not my dumb joke)....

Keep checking out the Introductions forum (my fave), that's where all the newbies let go of a lot of repressed frustration, now that they can talk to somebody who *understands*, and you'll see what I mean...

Another word you might hear in these forums is "flow", which (probably) describes how you are feeling when you do this.

BTW -- "flash floods", out here in La-La-Land (and the West US in general) means sudden desert floods under a clear sky. Not that this is really funny to anybody camping out under the desert stars who gets flushed to the sea, but they are spectacular to watch.....

LA is built on top of a desert, and not too far away from the suburbs there are poisonous snakes and spiders, hot baking sunlight, no drinking fountains, and, terrorizing the desert roads, huge tractor-trailers (motor freight) -- not unlike the Outback....

Ken

P.S. -- Opal --

I noticed the Chesterton quote -- based on what I have heard/read about him, I have a strong suspcion that he is a(n) "historical" ADD.... one who had a hugely successful life -- as an enertaining writer.

A role model for you?
