can't sleep on any medicine

I recently started taking Wellbutrin to help with my adhd...and I can't sleep. I have been on it before for about a year with no problem...this was before I had 2 children. Ever since the kids, I have had horrible problems on medication that I have been on for years. I even took ritalin, and now can only take a little of that. I just tried lexapro and effexor and felt great, but couldnt sleep on either of those. I now have to take ambien to get to sleep. Anyone have any advice? I really need the meds to function properly....should I keep taking the wellbutrin sr until I get used to this med again. I dont want to be on sleeping pills anymore. Any advice?

How long have you been back on the Wellbutrin?

Wellbutrin has a very long half life, so if it stimulates you, it will keep you awake. Mostly this is a temporary thing while you get used to the drug. Your body may react differently now - time takes it's toll, god knows I can't drink like I could years ago ;-)
I've also heard rumours that kids can somehow disrupt sleep, but I wouldn't know personally. You might be able to sleep if there was peice and quiet(?)
I would back off on the dose if it gets too bad and live with it in the short term if it's not intolerable - but that's me, and I'm used to not sleeping being a bit of an insomniac.

nivek is on a distinguished road
I had the same problem when I started taking Wellbutrin. I did not take Ambien but I did take 2 Excedrin PM every night. I still take at least 1 every night to get a better nights sleep. I have been on it for 8 months now and sleep gets better as each month goes by. Hang in their is should get better.

Thank you so much for the responses. I really feel like Wellbutrin is the drug for me after having been on it before...then off. I now remember why I took it in the first place. I sure hope the sleep gets better. I think it will. Do you all take Wellbutrin for ADHD or depression?
