Interesting. I'm surprised that you weren't diagnosed with combined type, given your frequent comments on your difficulties with emotional self-control. I guess maybe you'd fall into the group that Barkley has described as "subthreshold combined type" (which I might, too, at this point).

As I noted above, daydreaming is neither necessary nor sufficient for a diagnosis of ADHD (predominantly inattentive presentation) today. I do think daydreaming may have been included in older diagnostic criteria, but I'd need to check.

For what it's worth, people diagnosed with the "combined" presentation of ADHD have most of the "inattentive" symptoms as well as "hyperactive-impulsive" symptoms, by definition.

Inattentive and daydreaming were observations in the first connors scale.

I do not have enough hyperactive-impulsive symptoms to be diagnosed with ADHD-Combined.

Thanks. I looked back at DSM-III diagnostic criteria, and daydreaming wasn't in those, either.

The fact that both inattention and daydreaming were in the Conners Rating Scale does not imply that they mean the same thing. Daydreaming does not necessarily mean inattention, and inattention does not necessarily mean daydreaming. Daydreaming and inattention are related to each other in some cases, but the words are not synonyms.

I am not sure if people who have ADHD-Combined or ADHD-Inattentive are any more or any less likely to daydream excessively, than the other?

I do think many people who have ADHD-Combined or ADHD-Inattentive do daydream excessively.

I understood before I started the thread that ADHD-Combined is diagnosed using the criteria for ADHD-Inattentive and the criteria for ADHD-Hyperactivity/Impulsivity.

But since I was diagnosed with moderate ADHD-Inattentive, I was hoping at least some people diagnosed with ADHD-C would confirm symptoms excessive daydreaming.

Yes, I think so, too.

(I'm not sure how we would decide what's "excessive" -- I guess to the point that it interferes with other life activities?)

I used to daydream a lot when I was younger, all the way up until I was in my early 20s. I'd walk around outside and daydream for hours sometimes. But I don't do it nearly as much anymore. I don't know why or what it was that changed so that I daydream less.
