Hypervigilance and ADHD

Does ADHD cause hypervigilance or is it caused more by other things such as anxiety, PTSD, etc.? Obviously people can have more than one thing, but I'd like to know, what is your experience?

I have hypervigilance to some extent but I also have ADHD, anxiety, etc., so it's hard for me to figure out what causes it. I'm curious for myself because it'll be easier to address if I know the cause.

Unfortunately being hypervigilant wears me down and causes me to snap much easier. I'm very aware of people around me, how many people are crowding into the aisle at the store, if I'm in someone's way (or perceive that I'm in someone's way), if I'm doing something wrong (or perceiving that I'm doing something wrong), etc. Constantly paying attention to my surroundings is quite tiresome.

All I can say is ditto, ditto, ditto! I could have wrote that post. I have ADHD, anxiety and have bouts with OCD. Iím extremely hyper vigilant, it wears me out especially around crowds and I have no idea what to do about it.

I feel hyper vigilance is related to anxiety in my case. As an ADHD kid, I had no anxiety and lived in my own wonderful world. I was oblivious to others and their perception of me. I was certain the world revolved around me no matter how much trouble I got into. My amusement was worth it then.

Getting older and gaining responsibilities caused anxiety to become a bad coping skill for motivation. Hyper vigilance and obsessive thoughts were soon to follow. Later in life came the panic attacks, OCD and finally an ADHD diagnosis.
