Talking College Wooooohooooooo

Hiiiiiii. I just wanted to tell ya'll that I just found out that I got college fully covered by financial aid....including tuition, books, and a small "allowence" I also qualified for work study so Im gonna get a job through the school. Since the school knows about my ADHD hopefully they'll help me get a job that fits my personality and that I'll be able to keep for a while. Im soooooooooooooooooo excited about getting back into school. Its been a year since I been in school. I loved college, always got better grades there than high school. Mostly because the teachers were real flexible and let me do some creative projects. OMG I never thought I would be so HAPPY TO BE GOING TO SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I after I found out about getting the financial aid me and my daddy went to Izzys for lunch and to look at the classes for registartation. Wooooooohooooooooooo THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! Ok gotta go download some music now, adios amigos.

By the way, any tips for classes? I do well in all classes except for MATH which I can never seem to pass, Im trying to get a tutor for that, any other ideas would be great, thanks.

Having been back in school myself recently....and finishing -- I cannot tell you how happy I am for you LilMiss.....it sounds like you're really "thirsting" for knowledge...that's so great.....

Incidentally, I too was on total financial aid....it IS a great thing....after school ended I was told I had a six month grace period before I had to start paying it back.....so just enjoy whatever classes you take.....

Suggestions? Well in general I always found it helped to get to class early and with a tape recorder and sit in the front of the class.....I also found it helped to read the first reading assignment ahead of time....(and to find out what reading assignment is I contacted the professors)......

I always brought TONS of highlighters to class....and made sure I had all my teachers phone numbers and e-mail addresses in a place where I knew where they were.....

Also please never hesitate to ask questions in class if you don't understand something......chances are someone else doesn't either but doesn't have the guts to raise his/her hand.....

Tutors are great....highly recommend...and know you deserve one for any class you have trouble with.....

Good luck!

Basically Garry financial aid is financial support by the state and federal government (usually loans) to help pay for college.....

You have to fill out a FAFSA.....a huge application...and prove you're financially needy.....then based on what is on the application -- they send you what's called a financial aid "package"....telling you exactly what they willl cover -- how much money you will get each quarter/semester....They give you money for room, board, books, living expenses, etc.

You generally have to apply each year.....

There is also in addition to the loan program a federal work study program...which LilMiss got as well....meaning she will work part-time either on or off campus to help fund her education....this will look great on her resume by the way when she graduates....The school helps her find that job.....

Generally, also the family has to contribute part of the monies too....in other words usually not ALL of the costs of attending college are covered....they expect parents or whomever to contribute too.....

It's a great program....allows people who have no money to go to school...and all based on financial status....

THis is generally it.....good question

Did I leave anything out LilMiss or anyone?????????

Hey everyone, thanks for being happy for me

Joan, thanks for the suggestions. I do have a tape recorder but its kinda crappy, everything sounds muffled. Guess its time to buy a new one.

Garry, financial aid is (which Joan already explained lol) when the federal governament pays for school tuition/books. Every school here has a financial aid center where you just go to apply. Is there not a similar program in Canada??

Similar but not near as good sounding as what you guys have

here you can get a student loan but it is not near enough to cover the costs

It sounds like you have a good system in place for people with no money

Yes, not bad....the system.....it would be nice if we didn't have to pay it all back with interest once we graduate

Here it's not enough to cover the costs either by the way....but it seems there are ways to work around the system.....

You just have to convince them you're poor....

and starve to death while in school Just kidding......

When I did this, I got great grades. I got great grades sometimes. You draw your own conclusions!
Read the chapter/what ever Before it was assigned, when it was assigned after it was asigned. Outlined my books separately.
Took notes in class. lots of pens and highlighters. Recopied my notes later and filled in , reorganized the material once or more times.
Made my own study tools, from charts to graphs to lists to flash cards.
checked my assignments after i did them on my own, with someone who always got them all correct. They didn't mind as much because id alreaady done them all, or the best i could.
Barrowed other peoples notes to compare to mine.
good luck.
Oh in college, I was also busy developing my practical experience pleasing females... too bad it wasn't a credit class or an advanced degree! No I didn't take notes, but i toiled ceaselessly, ... ah to be young and stupid again! (No reflection on you!) Keep pleanty of your efforts academic and your grades CAN reflect your efforts.
Did I say all that outloud?
