Should I leave Job/Unmotivated

I am not happy at my job and see no point in staying there at this time. I feel like I am working for a paycheck..very unfulfilling... I want to do something worthwhile... I am just not sure what.

I am thinking about taking time off from working (quitting my job) and moving in with a family member. I have been working since I graduated college with very little thought as far as what I actually want to do. I have been at this job way too long..and I am getting burned out..and it is sucking the life out of me. It's not that its that horrible of a job. It's just not what I want to do, and I don't see any areas at the company that I want to pursue.

I just feel like my personality type, someone that is risk adverse, will be complacent at a job and afraid to leave unless I cut the cord and leave on my own volition. I don't want to waste any more of my life, I am 27 already.

My first love is politics. It is very difficult to get a job that can support a family in politics. I have no plans to run for office..so I am not sure what I can really do..

Any thoughts/ideas? Should I leave my job?

I've definitely been there, man. Given my past experience, I would err on the side of leaving too soon. But I would also start looking for something else, even if exactly the same function/industry, to get a change in scenery. Each change in scenery buys you more time to explore what you really want to do.

As for politics, volunteer all you can! That seems to be the way to progress, even if you don't aspire to office. A lot of people make SOME income writing about politics, though not enough to live off of.
