i am addicted to music, i feel like its a must and a need rather than a want or a passing thing, i conciously choose to delve into whatever is in the fabric of music that i can enjoy lest i be drawn back by the lack of coolness or being interested in the wrong/right artist. fortunately since i've turned 30 this has turned out to be far easier to do than it was in my earliest 20's b/c most of us don't define ourselves by our genre of music like younger ppl do ( which i hate)
but i remember talking to someone in my company recently and we were debating the merits of certain mp3 players and i asked her if she was a music junkie like me ..her response: "oh i didn't even know i liked music so much til i bought my ipod" what the hell? i remember thinking that she was not a true LOVER of music but rather inspired by the trend..something that moved her enough to spend a few hundred dollars to be properly attired for 2005..but not in conjunction with her true joy for music...i must admit that i felt seethingly judgemental about this! i remember thinking..what a paltry experience of music. i'm just so freaking passionate..she was so..bland about it. but i do remember, who am i to judge? but i would rather be stuck on an island with good music than anything else practically, music and books music and books.!

Sushix-
I have the same thoughts as you....i love a new rap song, I like the power of the music for some reason, it hypes me up...a feeling I never really get otherwise. However, I can never remember any of the lyrics even if i've heard the song 100 times. Never can I remember the lyrics to a whole song...for me this is impossible. |

![]() Speaking of radio, I can't really stand to listen to it any more, although I force myself to every few months to see if there is a new band out there that I like. |

Oh, I understand. I collect music obsessively in all formats. Most of my clutter is caused by records and cds.
One of my friends who is also an obsessive collector of vinyl was told by a coworker, "Records? Why don't you update?" Oh man. I love music more than probably anything. I credit music for saving my life when I was a depressed teen. The music I listened to was the first voice I ever heard that said others are outsiders, others feel alone and ugly and stupid and angry. Music was the first sense of connection I ever felt with the human race. It was a revelation to hear chaos like the chaos in my head put down and recorded, and it was especially wondrous to hear in the lyrics all the rage and defiance I'd always felt. That was mostly in my teenage punk days... I love all kinds of music and I hyperfocus on music. I'll listen to the same song over and over again to make sure I hear every nuance, every instrument. I cling to every phrase that I can identify with. It's the greatest source of beauty and inspiration to me. Quote:

Does music help u study? I have heard this a couple of times now over the past few months. One person even told me to listen to music while taking a test. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this!
Thanks

For work I do training content reviews on IT technical materials. It's dry, boring, and most of it is material I already know. Sometimes I have to review as many as 150 pages in a short span of time. Ugh!
When I put on music the review goes a lot faster and better than if I have quiet or even the TV on. I listen to music that I know and love to listen to. That way I already know the lyrics, I know the beat, and I know what has the best effect. For the past couple of months I've listened to Santana's Supernatural CD to start off whatever musical theme that I'm working to each day. What a great CD!

I realized that we exist in human form purely to amuse our "higher" selves. I just hope I can remember that I came to this realization! And I'm sick of giving people advice. They don't listen. They don't really want to deal with their issues. They just want to whine and complain and have someone else listen and tell them everything is going to be OK! Well, everything is NOT going to be OK unless you learn to handle whatever comes your way. |

Agreed I like music without lyrics too!!!! I like the insturments to speak for themselves!!!!! I listen to upbeat music to get me motivated, I like softer music to mellow out ot I can not medatite without muscial background to drowned out all the "other sounds". I could never watch TV again and never miss it but music I would miss. I do not know if I am addicted as I do not always have to have a radio, CD, ipod, ect because my head plays music all the time..I can hear what ever I want when ever I want because I have an "interal sound system".......

Heavy Metal, anyone??
Anyone used heavy metal as your musical "medication"?
When I got into hard rock / heavy metal in H.S. it was like a light went on for me. I've always studied, worked and planned better with something really rocking in the room. I wonder if the pace of the music matches the frenetic pace of my brain and therefore has some type of focusing effect for me? Anyone else?? Or, are y'all all listening to Enya and Yanni and I'm just bizarre? |

I remember wanting a portable MP3 player before there WERE portable mp3 players (this was in 1997).
Even before that, back in 1993 or so, I was recording 80s music off of the syndicated radio show Backtrax USA. At one point I had 20 90-minute tapes filled with 80s music. (I did this with a component tape deck and a stereo receiver..no holding a tape player up to the radio for me. Even recorded them with Dolby B, I did. Oh, the stereo receiver was connected to an outdoor FM/TV antenna so I got perfect reception). Now I have Sirius satellite radio in my car. I haven't gotten any speeding tickets since I've had it. |

ya, i like the classiscal intstrumental stuff. Anyway, I can't explain it.
I got into keyboards for a brief period of time. Like1 week. I learned "A Whole New World" from Aladdin..But I just started taking classical guitar class at my high school..and I love it so far. And I'm willing to bet it'll only get better.

But I realized after being diagnosed with ADD that the radio was too distracting for me. I no longer have it on while getting ready for work in the morning either. But I do recall listening to music a lot when I was younger, especially while painting with oils or watercolors, and letting the rhythm and lyrics direct my energy. Especially blues and pre-metal rock. I used to play flute, guitar, and some piano, but rarely now. I like listening to instrumental jazz when I do listen these days. |

I don't do well in complete silence. Every little tiny sound is magnified. Music is a welcome distraction from little, pesky, enormously distracting "noises" and I do so much better when I have my stereo on.

I need music, like people need water and food. It calms me, yet it also inspires me, makes me happy, I guess I feel my music not just hear it.
I love a wide range of types too. And diffent times of day or month change my choices of music. ![]() PS I have a Dell Jukebox 30G ----> Love it!!
