Demoralized

The government of Western Australia has decided that to get our stimulants, we have to sign a form with our details (including our weight).

So, for the sake of the government I had to get on the scales and find out what I weighed. I have been trying to lose weight and had been doing quite well on the exercise and not eating bad foods, but when I found out what I weighed I felt really depressed and ate a chocolate bar and then half a packet of biscuits.

I feel like I'm wasting my time trying coz the more I exercise, the more muscle I put on and the more I weigh. Does anyone else wonder why they bother to try and lose weight?

Did the Gov't say WHY they were collecting that data? Are they doing a study?

When I joined the gym I gained weight too. Have you lost inches though? They say a person with more muscle mass will have a higher weight than say a couch potato. Honest! Also at one point you do lose weight.. alot of weight. I've been low carbing for two years and have lost 70lbs.

Kassie is right, muscle adds weight.

You are much off measuring clothes sizes rather than weight. If you have not been a big exerciser; your body will add muscle quicker than you wil lose weight. Muscle weighs nearly twice what fat weighs.

As for the WA government...lets just move on from them. They couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag, let alone do anything constructive with the info.

The likely use for the info is to see if the stimulants are really for ADD use; or if there being prescribed as a weight-loss drug as stimulants can have a side-effect of hunger reduction and increased metabolism which causes weight loss.

On a lighter note; remember; because we are on the bottom half of the world; we weigh more when getting on the scales; I always deduct 10 kilo's (22lbs) just to adjust for this effect. Works really well! I don't get on my sclaes much any more. I just measure my success by the size clothes I wear. I set my target by clothes size.

On a positive note, at least your Doctor has diagnosed and is willing to prescribe. My Doctor thinks that because I hyperfocus; I don't fit the standard definition of ADD...figure that one out...and he is the state specialist on ADD!

Sleepz.

Does it say you have to fill out the form truthfully?

My Psych had to fill out the form but I had to sign it. Our government is trying to reduce the amount of stimulant prescriptions because some stupid ex-teacher who is now a politician went on a crusade to try and stop stimulant medication in favor of holistic methods.

Sleepz - your doctor doesn't sound like a specialist with that attitude. See if you can find someone else. Love your thought on the bottom end of the world. Think I might take it on board.

I'm not on a specific diet, but I'm trying to exercise every day and not eat junk food and reduce the amounts of carbs and fats.

IMHO, why not focus on losing fat rather than weight? That's much better for your heart, anyway. We Americans are preached this almost daily: Do more aerobic exercise, and you'll burn more fat. Do more anerobic exercise, and you'll build more muscle. (Building more muscles adds net weight since muscle weighs more than fat.)

TudorRose,

I've just read "The X Factor Diet". It's a low carb book which explains the theory of dieting and in my case made a lot of sense.

I'm switching Doctors..got told of a new one today and will call tomorrow. another day..another doctor.

Sleepz.
